Democrats-Country Duped?
First, I would like to point out that I am proud of the Democrats for standing up agaisnt the Dubai ports deal. I do not dislike Arabs or muslims. Mainly, I am against any country outside the US from taking over ports in the US. Second, Dubai in my opinion is not just any Arab country. This country supported the Taliban when the Taliban supported Al Qadea and numerous other countries turned their backs on the Taliban. Also, two of the nineteen hijackers came from this country. Finally, high officials from Dubai are said to have met with Osama Bin Laden.

However, were the Democrats and the country duped. I am hearing talk that Haliburton may pick up control of the ports that were to be taken over by the Dubai company. Is it possible that people within the Bush Administration realized before they put this deal forward that it would never go through? Does anyone think this was a backdoor way to get Haliburton control of these ports? At this time I am beginning to think the Democrats and this country were duped and played by the Bush Administration. It seems like the Dubai company was just a smoke screen. They were put up there because the Bush Administration knew this deal would never go through. However, if the deal did not go through maybe the Dubai company could give control to an American. Maybe they could pick the company they wanted to control the ports.

1. Of course.
It's the exact same plan they used to get Judge Alito. Meyers=Dubai.

4. Well, then that puts us at an advantage, doesn't it?...
What did we learn about their plan last time that we can use against them this time?...

2. Only if we let two balls drop...
First, the Dubai thing just pointed up the Bush** Administration's glaring deficiencies in our port and border security. Keep hammering this drum!! This is the one that got to the FReepers.

Second, it's just another example of Republicons going to bat for crony capitalism and the culture of corruption typified by Jack Abramoff. This is the one that's got average Americans thinking twice about these criminals.

We're only duped if we allow ourselves to be duped.

3. Halliburton would not have needed government approval to purchase
the ports. The only reason that the deal was under review in the first place was because it involved a foreign county.

7. Overall deal would not be profitable for Halli -- but a fire-sale with
some nice subsidy from congress will make the deal so sweet and make us all safe.

More dollars for the Cheney quale-hunting fund.

5. I agree totally.
This was entirely a set up for even more no bid wonder contracts which have served them so well to further loot the treasury.

Had they not pulled the UAE ruse Halliburton would have been under greater scrutiny.

Though there is talk of the Carlyle Group taking over as well but is there really any difference between the two?

6. Has Anyone Been Watching C-Span This AM???
Seems MSM, WAPO, WSJ and most NEWSPAPERS are giving the finger to Congress and The American People!

So Why Now?? I didn't hear much from them before. Oh, a little here and there, but mostly they were mealy-mouthed!

Seems like they are showing their CORPORATE leanings! NYT, WAPO have become decidedly more right-winged than ever before. But I'm glad they're pissed!

9. If that happens it will be the final nail in the Republicans' coffin

Right now they're teetering on the edge of a cliff because of this whole ports thing, and if Halliburton gets control, it will push them over the edge.

Halliburton picking up control of the port could be the best thing that happens to us, considering the elections are only months away. Imagine what fodder that would make for any Democratic politician running in November.

edited to add: Maybe for the first time in a long time, the Democratic think tanks have out-thought the mighty Repukian think tanks. Surely, we've got the repukes pinned into a corner with no way of getting out the situation honorably. Looks like some smart Democrats were thinking ahead every step of the way.
