Minneapolis Radio host calls guest "an Iraqi idiot peacemaker".

Sami Rasouli is back in the U.S.A., where he had it made. He owned Sinbad's, a restaurant on Nicollet Avenue in Minneapolis that a local magazine in 2001 declared the finest eatery on Eat Street. He was on the magazine's cover, wearing a red fez and a big smile. He had U.S. citizenship, a Lincoln Continental, a house in the suburbs, three kids. Not to mention electricity, drinkable water, heat, air-conditioning, and little concern for explosive devices underfoot.

"I had the life people in Iraq want," he said.

And in November of 2004 he pitched it all and moved back to Iraq, the land of his birth.

"The war, the destruction, the sad faces," he said. "I felt guilty. I felt like I wasn't doing my share. That was the country that gave me my birth. I had to do something."

The 54-year-old businessman has become the peacemaker. In his hometown, Najaf, he started an organization called Muslim Peacemaker Teams, modeled on the Christian Peacemaker Teams. Working together, the two groups try to build bridges among people of goodwill, no matter the faith.

~On Feb. 15, for example, he was a guest on a local radio talk show on station KTLK hosted by Sarah Janecek and Brian Lambert.

"I was scheduled to be on for 30 minutes to an hour," he said.

He lasted under 12 minutes before Janecek suggested they end the segment.

"I became somewhat short-tempered," said Janecek. "I don't have time to listen to someone who won't acknowledge the atrocities of Saddam Hussein."

Rasouli said he was pulling away from the station when he heard Janecek refer to him as "an Iraqi idiot peacemaker."

Janecek says she doesn't recall those words.

Said Rasouli of the experience, "I was under the impression they wanted me to be a guest so they could hear stories about things I am witnessing. I guess she believes she already knows everything."
~

A little background this station is the former FM Jazz station that Rush moved to in January when he got booted from his AM station because his ratings fell 40%. Large billboards have appeared all over Minneapolis claiming this station is "fair and balanced".

Of course, I sent the station a scathing critique of her disappointing behavior.

1. Sarah Janecek is a terrible person
And she was mentioned in Al Frankens "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them". She was quite quick to jump on the wasn't the Wellstone memorial just awful bandwagon and is generally credited (for lack of a better word) with being the one who claimed we at the memorial were being told when to cheer or clap (she was talking about the closed captioning).

2. Sarah Janecek is the Repub mouthpiece who trashed Wellstone's funeral,
Edited on Sat Feb-25-06 10:18 PM by ocelot
and she should fry in hell just for that -- she's the one who insisted the closed captioning was proof the speeches were scripted and was being used to prompt the audience. I'm not surprised she wouldn't want to hear the truth from an actual Iraqi who'd been to Iraq, which of course she hasn't. Like most of her ilk, she'd rather drink the Kool-Aid than hear about real facts. Janecek is horrible.

5. Hi! Me thinks I should have put this in the Minnesota forum.
...but I decided not to because it reflects the same blind arrogance we face Nationwide.

I wonder how KTLK is doing ratings-wise. I see Kerry stickers everywhere, rarely a W.

8. I never hear or see anyone praising Bush UNLESS.........
.....they are stuck on the anti-abortion issue and look at nothing else. I've got a neighbor, otherwise a nice person, who thinks the sun rises and sets on Bush BECAUSE he "doesn't believe in abortion". I ask this person about other issues and it ALWAYS comes back to, "I trust him because he doesn't believe in abortion". :nuke:

10. He would be surprised to know how many Progressives are
against partial birth abortion, or believe taxpayer money shouldn't be used for abortion. There's a lot of room for compromise on these issues, however we do not compromise when it comes to sanctioning torture, or lying to go to war, or cutting taxes for millionaires while cutting programs that help the poor or elderly. Judging from his inaction, * doesn't give a rats ass about abortion. He used the issue to win elections. Alito is a federalist, not an abortion activist.

17. please remember THERE IS NO SUCH THING as partial birth
abortion--and using that phrase is just repeating the anti-choicers' meme, giving it the credibility it does NOT deserve.

20. That's what my family is like.
Before the 2004 election, any time I raised the issue of what a bad President * is, the response was always "but he's against abortion". Never mind that some of them can't make ends meet, the President is against abortion and gay marriage and that was good enough for them.

4. So she uses the word 'peacemaker' as an INSULT, eh? That says alot.
I had some further comments, but have decided to keep them
to myself...feel free to use your imaginations.

9. I think just about ALL the letters were in there somewhere!
Many single-syllable words with hard consonants at first;
but when I started feeling the BURNING NEED to hyphenate,
I took a step back and went outside for some nicotine.

11. Send that station a comment!
That's my suggestion. They are a new station, and should check themselves before they wreck themselves.....oh wait they never check themselves.

13. If this station advertises itself as 'Fair and Balanced'...
...then I know that sending them my comments is a waste of time.

As you say, these types never check themselves.

15. My friend, speaking the truth is NEVER "a waste of time."
These bastards need to learn that the rest of the world knows they're disfunctional thinkers.

16. So much truth, so little time...sigh.
Frankly, I am of the opinion that these bastards ALREADY KNOW
that "the rest of the world knows they're disfunctional thinkers".

That is why they they use lies and propaganda
instead of facts and reason.
If they actually thought the world agreed with them,
they wouldn't bother to be so dishonest all the time.

18. No, they have a different worldview.
If you haven't already, pick up "Don't Think of an Elephant" and read it. It's inexpensive, it's an easy read, and it'll change the way you think of it all.

But so are a lot of things!
Sometimes it sucks to be poor.
Not always, but sometimes.

21. It's pretty reasonable - about ten bucks - or I'm sure the library has it.

The other option is to go spend some time at http://www.rockridgeinstitute.org - which is the think tank where Lakoff is a senior fellow. They have a lot of the essays from the book on the site in one form or another.

12. Janecek has her own show on KTLK?
That says it all right there.

I have met CPT members face to face back here and I know where they come from and respect them and the MPT teams. I am not suprised the reception on KTLK was so cool and Janecek cut the interview off early.
