The Democrats will push some type of legislation to prevent Dubai from operating our ports. The majority of the House and Senate will support the legislation. However, when the moment arrives, we will not have enough votes to override Bush's veto of the legislation.
Yesterday, we heard Tim Russert of GE and NBC, downplay the security concerns. Today, we hear Matt Lauer of GE and NBC, downplay the security concerns. We can only wonder why?
However, there is a full-out offensive to convince enough people that all these concerns are unwarranted. Nevermind that we have been told for the last five years that the biggest threat from terrorism lies within our port system. Less than 5% of the products that come into our ports are scrutinized.
But, one-third of the Senate is up for re-election. Mr Bush needs 34 votes to keep the hounds at bay. He will cajole, bribe, and pay off everybody he can to go along with him. The question is: Will he have enough money and promises to get the secured number of votes to get this secretive pet project slipped by the people? At this point, it is up in the air, but my bets are that he will veto any legislation passed and that his veto will be upheld.
