Iraqi Civil War is On the Way.
Colin Powell told the Village Idiot before he invaded Iraq that he was playing under the Pottery Barn Rules...."you break it, you own it".

Well, if anyone thought he didn't break it before.....it is clear that he has NOW! 47 people on a bus stopped by gunmen are mowed down by gunfire. Retaliation for the mosque bombing? Probably. 4 MORE U.S. soldier killed Wednesday by a roadside bomb. Our kids over there are now what you would call "collateral damage", being killed in the midst of the early part of a civil war that the Bush Administration is responsible for!!

And there stands waiting, Iran, who has always been more dangerous to us than Iraq ever COULD be, waiting for a reason to invade to "protect" the Shiites, which also make up the majority in Iran! Now you are looking at a very dangerous REGIONAL conflict! Now, figure in the fact that the Arab world doesn't want Iraq divided into multiple countries, and you are looking at others taking the Sunni side, even if they don't really agree with the politics of it...(the lesser of two evils). Now you are looking at Pakistan getting involved, possibly Jordan, Egypt, our new port authority, the UAE. Then the Saudi's will need protection (they are Bush family friends, you know). Pakistan's involvement makes India feel very vulnerable, and now you have two NUCLEAR powers involved! Israel, feeling very nervous, and having, most think, nuclear capabilities, starts looking for a reason to "protect itself", and there are THREE nuclear countries involved!

And where are our KIDS? Standing in the middle of all this CRAP! Standing RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE of WORLD WAR III, and none of this is a gross exageration.......it is a very logical possibility.

And the neo-cons think that overthrowing Hussein saved lives? Maybe, but it is costing possibly millions more!!

2. You have Sunni's and Shiites going after......
....each others mosques and people. Order is quickly breaking down into chaos. Seems close.

3. This is all proceeding according to plan
I wrote this 18 months ago in reponse to a WashPost article that said that Pelosi had complained to Condi about reported CIA efforts to manipulate the outcome of the then upcoming Iraqi elections. :http://mboard.rediff.com/board/board.php?action=m&boardid=news2004sep27iraq&messageid=693864769#693864769

Subject: CIA Iraq Covert Political Plan Aired and Then Axed

This is the most absurd thing I've ever heard of! All of the candidates were vetted by the PA. It's like the RNC saying it won't play covert games to determine the outcome of Republican primaries!

The choices are utterly proscribed to begin with -- the object being to keep the majority Shi'a clerics from taking immediate control over the central government, where they might actually keep Iraq together in one piece long enought to reunify the country with Iran! You know, those borders are just lines drawn up in the British Foreign Office 90 years ago. For a long time before that it was all the Ottoman Empire. That common identity never really went away.

Everyone knows that the game plan is to break Iran up into three more managable pieces -- Shi'a south, Sunni center, and Kurdish north. Each oil exporting region will have its own U.S. controlled pipeline and its own petty tyrant, and some randomizing terrorist groups thrown in to keep everyone off balance. These squabbling potentates will assure the need for an American armed presence for years to come.

The British tried to do things more directly -- by putting the larger minority faction in control over the rest. But, that would mean resurrecting the Ba'ath Party by another name.

The stuff I read in the major U.S. papers about the "New Iraq" is recycled Pentagon press releases -- it's the Saigon Five O'clock Follies all over again. It's like reading about how Thieu will be more of a democratic leader than Kye, who was more of a democrat than Diem, who was too French and too Catholic. And poor Diem, before Ambassador Harriman offered him "safe passage" and coaxed him to meet his maker inside that armored personnel carrier, he was so much nicer than that wicked Madame Nhu. Big crocodile tears at MACV and CIA.

Even if there are elections in January, this has absolutely nothing to do with the warlords who will actually be running all those little warring fiefdoms a year later.

5. That's been our intention all along...
Edited on Thu Feb-23-06 10:41 AM by Bruce McAuley
Look at it this way: We couldn't have TRIED to do this better than we have, propaganda from the Bush people notwithstanding.
Results speak louder than words, and divide and conquer has always worked.
I look for Iraq to become 3 separate countries, or maybe 2 separate countries with the 3rd integrated into Iran.
Lots of recent historical precedent: Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia come to mind.

12. Wes Clark said today that this is a low level civil war.
He also said that we are finishing off the Iran-Iraq war by killing off the Ba'thist generals for the Iranians.

14. There's only one thing nastier than a civil war,
and that's a RELIGIOUS civil war. Lest we forget, too, this is a couple of sects of a religion that takes itself very seriously.

Of course, no one saw this coming, though...
