27. Yes Ohio!!
Akron!! LOL!!

No, I'm serious - AKRON - along the Cuyahoga River!!

Then we can all sing

My City Was Gone!

I went back to ohio
But my city was gone
There was no train station
There was no downtown
South howard had disappeared
All my favorite places
My city had been pulled down
Reduced to parking spaces
A, o, way to go ohio

Well I went back to ohio
But my family was gone
I stood on the back porch
There was nobody home
I was stunned and amazed
My childhood memories
Slowly swirled past
Like the wind through the trees
A, o, oh way to go ohio

I went back to ohio
But my pretty countryside
Had been paved down the middle
By a government that had no pride
The farms of ohio
Had been replaced by shopping malls
And muzak filled the air
From seneca to cuyahoga falls
Said, a, o, oh way to go ohio

2. Anywhere but the northeast or west coast
We need to appeal to middle america this time. New Orleans, Cleveland, Atlanta, St. Louis, Minneapolis. Those would all be great. Las Vegas would be a disaster. Talk about sending the wrong message!

3.  I opt for Minneapolis
so we can be "Republican Free"...do a nice tribute to Paul Wellstone.

New Orleans is a nice idea but I'm against it because the rebuilding ISN'T TAKING place and I don't want to see pictures ofDemocrats partying in comfortable surroundings in juxtaposition of people living in abject poverty/ruin. You might say that it would highlight the administration's failure to rebuild NO ... true ... but it would also make us look like "limosine liberals". Don't want that at all.

Would be another democratic blunder. That way they can make Katrina a significant part of the campaign.

9. This may be short-sighted but I pick New York. My rationale:
(Not that this'll ever happen but anyway...)

As a theme of "restoring America," or to be more graphic, cleaning up the smashed vases, broken furniture, puke-soaked floors, dirty dishes and empty beer bottles remaining after the outta-control frat party known as the last 8 years of GOP rule; the first symbolic gesture is to redress the desecration of this fair city by the presence of these hoods during their '04 rally, which consisted of lies, more lies, 9/11 exploitation, insulting all wounded vets with their phony mock purple hearts, etc. It also consisted in turning NYC into a gulag, with endless arrests (with almost no convictions to justify them)and free-range trampling of the 1st Amendment.

That's where my heart is on the matter; my head is with NOLA. But I needed to express my view.

11. I'm against NO on moral grounds
Edited on Sun Feb-19-06 02:01 PM by safi0
I was appalled that the GOP chose NYC for their convention site because they were just exploiting a national tragedy. I'd like to think we are better than that.

13. I'd like to think that we have learned that politics is a dirty business
And that 'being better than that' in a street fight results in getting kicked in the balls.

23. Holding the convention there would help their economy
of which tourism is an important part. So it wouldn't be "just" exploitation, even if it is, a little. It would also be a help to them.

Just because they refused to bid on the RNC one. The slap in the face is worth entertainment value. That and it is a heavily blue community. Plus it is close to home for me. My second choice would be New Orleans

18. Minneapolis/St. Paul. Minnesota's getting too purple for comfort
these days.

It would help boost our chances at that senate seat and help re-coalesce the old DFL folks some.

And Minnesota in the summertime is damned beautiful to boot.

New Orleans cannot handle the convention, and it would be considered grandstanding to hold the convention there.

New York is out of the question for a lot of reasons!

We need to show that even Texas has lots of proud Democrats and that the stronghold is slipping away.

I don't think New Orleans has the infrastructure for it.... THey have more important things to do that worry about the convention.

30. Minneapolis DESERVES it...
The most reliably Democratic state (Presidentil wise), for the last 34 years. Did not even succumb to the two Reagan landslides. Now it is becoming a bit purple, though there have been encouraging signs recently, I think it should be rewarded.

And, it would help to shore up other midwestern states.

31. I'm Sort Of Thinking We Need To Go With Something In Florida!
But NOT Orlando! The place is a NIGHTMARE these days. My last trip from Venice to Orlando was a FOUR HOUR drive!! It's horrendous! It's usually about 2.5 hrs, but they've had construction going on there since.... Gee I can't even remember!!

I KNOW Tampa isn't HUGE, but it's a thought!!
