MoveOn Endorses Incumbant Cuellar's Primary Opponent, Ciro Rodriguez
Earlier this week 84% of us agreed we should challenge some right-wing incumbent Democrats in primary elections. Now, we're announcing our first MoveOn-member endorsement in a primary.

Ciro Rodriguez is running for Congress in the 28th District in Texas. Rodriguez opposed the war in Iraq and has championed health care, education and veteran benefits. In the words of Marta from San Antonio, "Rodriguez is a true Democrat and would stand up to the Bush administration in Washington."

But Rodriguez is up against an incumbent—Henry Cuellar—who consistently voted against Democrats on important issues and literally campaigned for Bush in 2000. With a sprint to the March 7th finish we can put Rodriguez over the top with our support. Can you contribute $35? Click below.

The really good news about this primary is that there is no Republican in the race. If Rodriguez wins in three weeks it will be a big progressive win.

Electing Rodriguez is one part of our two-part candidate strategy—taking back the House and supporting the more progressive Democrat in primaries.

We also have another candidate you can support today—Francine Busby (D) who is the MoveOn-member endorsed candidate in California's 50th district. She is running in a special election to replace Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham (R) who left Congress after pleading guilty to accepting bribes.

And like Rodriguez, the special election is coming right up—on April 11th. Every minute is urgent for these candidates. Together we can put them over the top. Can you contribute $35?

Thanks for all you do.

1. I'm waiting for the "this will waste precious resources" gang to show up
Cuellar is a Dem, right? </sarcasm>

Go Rodriguez!

4. Why do you think that?
Do you know someone around here that likes Cuellar?

6. No, but I know the pro-DINO crowd mentality
and that is the line they use to suppress dissent within the Dem Party.

7. So there's no dissent, you're just making a pre-emptive strike in case
someone does defend Cuellar? Kind of trying to suppress their dissent before they can dissent, so they can't suppress yours?

8. No, I'm using the DINO defenders words against them
I support challenging Cuellar as well as all DINO's, like Lieberman. They continually back-stab the Dem Party or saboutage Dem attacks against Repubkes because they are feeding from the Repuke trough.

Lieberman held a fundraiser for his re-election campaign about 10 days ago and 3 out of the 5 main guests were Repuke lobbyists http://townhall.com/opinion/columns/robertnovak/2006/02/11/186083.html.

REPUBLICANS FOR LIEBERMAN

Two prominent Republican lobbyists, Craig Fuller and H.P. Goldfield, hosted a fund-raising dinner Thursday evening at Goldfield's Washington home for Democratic Sen. Joseph Lieberman, seeking re-election in Connecticut this year.

Fuller was President Ronald Reagan's Cabinet secretary and later Vice President George H.W. Bush's chief of staff. Goldfield, a Reagan White House aide and later assistant secretary of Commerce, was a fund-raiser in the two Bush-Quayle campaigns.

While Lieberman is a major voice for lobbyist reform, three of his dinner's five hosts were registered lobbyists. Fuller represents the National Association of Chain Drug Stores. Goldfield lobbies for Airbus and for energy companies (ConcocoPhillips, Dynegy International and Gulfsands Petroleum). Co-host C. Michael Gilliland, a partner in the Hogan & Hartson law firm, represents a variety of clients.

5. Although I'm usually in the crowd, this seems like a good choice
Since there's no Republican in the race and since the current Rep is a DINO by anyone's definition, I don't see a problem with this.

3. That's not much of a decision.
Cuellar lost last time, then suddenly found a ballot box full of votes for him. This is in the primary, btw, when he defeated Ciro the first time. Cuellar was a big Bush supporter while he was governor, and was appointed to some Bush post or other. He's not a Democrat, barely pretends to be. I doubt there's a Dem in his district that will vote for him. The bad news is that most Republican races are uncontested in Texas (another reason One Tough Grandma ran as an independent, to keep from upsetting the GOP plan), so a lot of Republicans will vote in the Dem primary.

Ciro should still win. I guess he'll be glad of the money.

MoveOn won't create any controversy with that one.

9. I just contributed to Ciro.
Not much, but, still, if he wins, I want to feel just a little tiny part of it ...

That fucking Cuellar enrages me. :grr:

A Ciro victory would be a delicious lesson to teach Bush-kissing DINOs like Cuellar.
