Why am I hearing that "Cheney is not a heavy drinker"?
This is bullshit. Cheney has not one, but TWO DWIs in his past. And, in my experience, once you get two DWIs, you've got a problem if you continue to drink, and it only gets worse as time goes on.

Cheney was DRUNK when he shot that lawyer in the face. Mark my words.

More alarming to me is that these Republican talking heads are spewing this crap out with not one word of argument from the Dems! Why do we let this shit fly without giving argument?

1. Cheney may or may have not been drunk
But unless he eats a heck of a lot of food, it looks like he has a decades old beer belly around the middle.

at least in Cheney's case, where it's obviously from drinking too much Blood of the Innocent.

11. Funny. Actually beer drinkers tend to have a much worse diet
than wine drinkers. they have been studying alcohol and health, and found that one reason wine drinkers have less heart trouble is that they tend to eat better foods. The beer gut might have more to do with the cheese burgers and chili dogs that taste so good with a beer.

Just the thought of drinking a fine Shiraz with a chili dog strikes me as odd.

I will not drink ANY FUCKING Merlot!!!!

I'm actually not a big fan of reds in general. They tend to give me a headache after just a glass or two. But if I must have them, I prefer Pinot Noir or, failing that, Cabernet Savignon.

26. Some of the Aussie Merlots are good.
My wife is partial to Penfolds Rawson's Retreat.

There's a nice blend of Shiraz and other reds that is getting notice. it's called House Wine.

I am more a fan of bourbon, but do like a good Chardonnay.

27. If you're gonna open it up to any alcohol in general...
I'm also not as much of a wine fan as I am of other, more potent potables. I dig bourbon when I'm out on the town -- I'm a pretty loyal Jack and Coke man -- but I really dig a good scotch.

29. There's two bourbons I recommend.
Eagle Rare by Buffalo Trace Distillery and W L Weller for the budget drinker. .

http://www.greatbourbon.com/eaglerare.html Other's under the brand Eagle rare are equally good.
http://www.whiskymag.com/whisky/brand/eagle_rare/whisky296.html This is my favorite

A good cheap bourbon is W L Weller. it's very smooth. http://www.greatbourbon.com/wlweller.html

If you want something that will make you sit up and say Yowza! Try Knob Creek.
http://www.whiskymag.com/whisky/brand/knob_creek/whisky246.html good neat and with a splash

Be sure to get some high quality chocolate to go with your bourbon.

6. I think Democratic leaders should stay far away from that issue
Edited on Thu Feb-16-06 08:26 AM by karynnj
This issue is surfacing in the media. There are even probably Republicans who have a sinking feeling that it is true. None of the Democrats have any proof or knowlege beyond what is in the press. If a Democrat leader made it an issue, some of those Republicans who are questioning this will likely snap back into allegance.

Just as Katrina showed many that the administration is incompetent and dishonest, this attacks Cheney's morality, competence and macho qualities. (That they worry about keeping the Republican monopoly on being macho, note how often the RW in the last few days has brought up Kerry and repeated all their little jokes - even though Kerry is an excellent hunter. (and it's about the only thing I don't like about him)).

The Republicans have been shooting themselves in the foot on this - every spokesman who tries to defend the delays in getting the guy to the hospital and informing the country loses credibility. That loss of credibility may be transferable to other things they say. The best advise for Democrats would be to stay far away from this if they can.

Although dealing with it obliquely could work. For example, imagine Kerry in an ad for whatever the Massachusetts agency regulates hunting - with Kerry in jeans (not camoflage) with his hunting dog, speaking about the safety rules for hunting. No mention of Cheney, but the first rule seems to be to look before you shoot. Oh, and no drinking.

9. GOUT GOUT GOUT GOUT GOUT
Cheney just had a severe attack of gout about a month ago.

Yes, I KNOW "certain foods", blah blah blah, can cause gout, and yes, I've even been told that "non-drinkers can get it" (though I've never actually known a non-drinker who got it, whereas I've known several drinkers who got it.)

Fact: Cheney has been known to drink. So we can forget the consideration of "non-drinkers".

That leaves rich foods. How many rich foods can one eat when one has a heart problem like Cheney's?

That leaves BOOZE.

If Cheney is currently "not a heavy drinker", it's only b/c his doctors must've told him that if he gets drunk to the passing-out stage, he might wake up dead.

I have a strong feeling that, while Cheney may not be THE heaviest drinker in the country, he is probably a heavier drinker than the majority of Americans.

17. I said that yesterday......and they covered up that he had gout too
for awhile. Now why did they do that? BOOZE. People who get gout do not cover up this painful condition, unless they don't like what the docs told them, lay off the booze or they don't want people to know they are boozers!

Are taxpayers paying for Cheney's damn ambulance and medical team?

21. I bet taxpayers pay for EVERYTHING connected with him!
And as for the gout, yes, they covered it up for a while, but then they finally officially admitted that that's what made him have to wear a moccasin on one foot even at some formal looking function(s). (Saw a photo of him.)

Okay, it's conceded that he gets gout.

Why in the HELL would he drink at ALL, if drinking makes it possible that the gout would return? Gout is extremely painful. When you find out that a certain food or drink makes you get a painful condition, you generally go out of your way to avoid it.

Conclusion: he continues to drink, even though every drink risks a return of the horrible pain, because he HAS to continue to drink. That's called ALCOHOL ADDICTION.

The country is being run by not one, but TWO, drunks. Our country won't even let someone sit behind the wheel of their car if they've been drinking. Yet we let people sit at the pinnacle of power while drinking.

32. FYI...
My brother has gout, and he doesn't drink. It's food with him. And Cheney is a flipping idiot for drinking with his heart problems. Or over-indulging in food. I'll bet they have a team of cardiologists hovering over his sorry ass 24/7.

35. Apparently they DO have a team of cardiologists hovering over his
sorry ass 24/7--seriously!

And as for your brother, that situation is inapplicable to Cheney, because Cheney DOES drink. He himself has said he does.

My brother has gout, too. I don't want to criticize the drinking, eating, or non-drinking habits of persons whose personal lives aren't my business because those persons are NOT an elected official who is supposed to serve YOU and ME. But, just out of curiosity, has your brother ever in the past drunk alcohol?

I also know of a 90-year-old lady who I'm told has gout, and I'm told she doesn't drink. If in fact she ever drank, it would have to have been in moderation, because people who drink to excess don't live to be in their 90's.

Of course, this lady certainly never picked up TWO DUI arrests, and I'm betting your brother never did, either. Cheney is a different case.

15. I ask myself: "Why try to cover this up?"
And the only two reasons I can come up with is:

  • He was drunk while it happened and needed time to sober up before issuing a public statement
  • He thought the whole incident could be swept under the rug and the public would never know it happened

Either way, what I see are the actions of a (criminally minded) person attempting to hide his actions due to either embarrassment or legal cover-up.

And this man is suppose to be our Vice President? *sigh*

I have a question for hunters.

How many of you have a 'beer with lunch' or any time BEFORE you are going out with a group of people and a loaded weapon?

We have a trap shooting spot (I don't know the correct terms here) about three miles from our house. When there are events there are cars and trucks up and down the road. The people at the events are there all day, however we do not see coolers or containers of beer out until AFTER the event is over and the guns are put away.

Anyone?
