So...how do you think this shooting will affect the administration?
Everybody already hates Dick Cheney. But what will happen to the administration's reputation? The same? Worse? Far worse? BETTER? Just seeing what you think...

1. I don't think it's going to matter at all.
They will stick to the story. An accident, Cheney feels terrible, rotten luck. No criminal charges will filed or even considered. Forgotten about in a few days.

2. It depends upon whether the guy lives...
... or not. If he does, then the media will forget it and move on to the next celebrity murder or missing girl. Even if it turns out that Cheney was drunk and should have been prosecuted, it won't happen.

But, you can count on one thing: the air will be a little close and thick in the Old Executive Office Building when Cheney next shows up for work.

Wonder if the WH guards will make Cheney go through the metal detector?

24. Good Point!
"Stable in ICU" by no means ensures that your chances of survival is 100%. This guy could die in ICU today ... remember, when you're in ICU, you're gravely ill.

I noted how the Cable Media first reported ICU, then as if ordered, dropped the note.

These people are evil. Where's the police investigation?

3. Any ligitimate hunters will know he's an idiot!
And a careless one at that! II've spoken to several real hunters today about this incident, and EVERY ONE OF THEM said this is inexcuseable!

As far as the admin goes, I doubt there will be much of an effect.

I suspect it will take a little wind out of the sails of the NRA though. All that preaching about safe gun use an all....

5. Let's see....
Bush LIED us into a war and has killed 2,267 of our troops so far.

He's illegally spying on Americans (probably Democrats mostly)...

He royally screwed up the response to Katrina...

He rewarded an Indicted Man with a coveted seat on the Appropriations Committee...

He slipped in "privatized accounts" in the Budget before Congress without saying a word..

And the list could go on for days..

Yep. I'm sure his Veep shooting a guy, while photos of himself with Abramoff air across the nation's airwaves.. will be just another day in paridise for the theifs.

They are so drunk on power, they could care less what anyone thinks..

6. I think it matters a great deal
Edited on Mon Feb-13-06 02:41 AM by Steve_DeShazer
Look, we (liberals/progressives) all know that DeadEye Dick is bad news. But we have followed the arcane details of Dick's corruption for YEARS.

But every local yokel knows that shooting your hunting buddy makes you at best a fool and at worst a complete MORAN.

It takes some thought to dissemble Cheney's lies about nukular weapons and yellowcake from an African country with a funny name that reads like a racial epithet; but any dope can figure out that shooting your hunting partner takes a special kind of incompetence.

This is a gold mine. It is VERY damaging. Why do y'all think they covered it up for a full day, and why is there a full-court press to minimize the damage, i.e., "he's sitting up and alert", "Cheney was very apologetic", "it was just an accident", and on and on.

7. Not a damn thing
Maybe a little comic embarassment, but that's it.

5+ years of "Oh! Oh! Bush is toast! This has legs!!" type of stories should teach us all that something like this will not be what brings the house down.

9. Yeah, we need to pick our battles
After all, shooting someone's no big deal-- vice presidents do it all the time. Like that Aaron Burr guy.

Now getting a blow job from a consenting 25-year-old woman, THAT'S a SERIOUS OFFENSE!

:sarcasm:

12. What a bunch of malarkey
First of all, it is NOT illegal to get a blow job from a consenting adult, so intent has nothing to do with what Clinton did, since it was not illegal.

Second, Cheney shot a man. You cannot automatically conclude that it was just an accident. If it were anyone else, the relationships between the two parties would be investigated to determine if there could have been a motive. On top of that, it took a whole day to get this story out-- plenty of time for everyone to get the story "straight".

17. If I may answer this:
You're right; a blowjob isn't against the law - I don't think I've heard anyone say it was... However, lying to a grand jury IS.

You're right again: (if it were anyone else)'the relationship between the two parties would be investigated'. How do you know that isn't being done?

18. So THAT begs the question
Why was Clinton put on trial for doing something that was NOT illegal?

As for your second question, it was in reply to a poster who has since been awarded a tombstone, who claimed matter-of-factly, "Dick Cheney did NOT go hunting that morning intending to harm one of his shooting partners."

19. I had no idea!
So you think Cheney DID go hunting that morning intending to shoot this Worthington fellow....WOW! When the details come out on this one it'll be some darn good reading!

Who else was there with them? I'd love to see just how different their statements about it are!

20. I have no idea how things will turn out
But I personally believe that as long as the current group is in control, we may never know what transpired. But considering the amount of shot that the victim received, compared with the amount of shot that was in the cartridge, it appears that the victim was closer than was let on. Also, for this to be an accident, Cheney would have to turn around and hit the victim with what would seem to be remarkable unintended accuracy. Of course, what kind of hunter turns around and shoots without checking what he's shooting at? Especially when he knows he's with other people, and who are not even in his sight?

16. I think it hurts a little
It sends yet another picture of incompetance, while people are still talking about Katrina. Probably won't do much, but maybe a few hunter repubs will start to wonder what's wrong with Cheney to have this happen.

21. Seems to suit Quick Dick's M.O.: shoot 'em all, let Hagee sort 'em out...
... or is that "let God sort 'em out"? or Robison? Not sure ol' Trigger Dick can tell the difference anyway!

I'm confused, though: I thought they taught better hunt manners than THAT in Wyoming... could he have been (whisper) "under the influence"?

23. If The Press does it's job , this is HUGE
I just heard on C-Span that "some member" of the Armstrong Family (a black sheep Democrat) leaked the story to a local media outlet.

My theory: these bastards (Cheney's handlers) were NOT going to report this incident at all!

What I like to know is when the police were notified? Isn't failure to contact the police immediately after an accidental shooting - unlawful in and of itself?

Or is everything relative when it comes to this smarmy Executive Branch in seemingly 1984 Bush-World?

Edited on Mon Feb-13-06 08:16 AM by Neil Lisst
"The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers" was spoken by Dick the Butcher, as his proposal to make certain that fascism could proceed without the niceties of due process.

26. Sure blasts a big hole in the "Just trust us" plea, don't it....
I would hope that it would also occasion a fresh look at the many ways the GOP kowtows to the gun lobby.....

The NRA boasted they'd be working out of the White House, and the result is that somebody got shot...big surprise.
