Why progressive causes are an uphill struggle

The right wing represents the people in power, while progressives represent those who are less fortunate and not as powerful . Obviously, people in power have more money and influence to push their agenda through. This is why fighting for progressive causes is always an uphill struggle. That is why it is so important to not give up and to stay active, no matter how bad things might be politically for us. Every progressive victory is a victory for the underdog, a victory over the power structure. The thing is, there are more tenants than landlords, more employees than employers, more people who are not wealthy than wealthy people. If all of us who are not in positions of power would band together to take down the right wing, they wouldn't stand a chance. In order for the right wing to succeed, less powerful people must be manipulated to vote against themselves. The right has done a good job of accomplishing this by using prejudice and fear, along with religious and patriotic symbolism. For the progressive movement to succeed, we need to wake these people up. We will then have the numbers on our side.

1. exactly so, which is why the party elite must be shunned as "leaders"

because they ARE as much a part of the wealthy ruling class as the Republican leadership is. The DLC throw us a dried up old bone, and we're supposed to lick it to death and be forever in their debt for it - (notice how their functionaries send out the wolf hounds to attack progressives every time this issue is discussed?)

so it's up to the rank and file to rise up from the ashes of the crumbling towers that the elites continue to try and rule from - and get our own message out to the people, and that includes who we want to elect to office.

2. yes, but....

....the people have been sold a corporate structured and dominated world and they are convinced there is no better way to organize economics, society and politics....

....the two major corporate partys sell 'free markets' and greed....progressive values don't thrive very well in a 'free market' and greed environment....so what kind of environment do you want to build?....

....make it something inspiring, something to believe in, something worth dying for....and when it comes up short, like all human endeavors do, at least we can feel the effort was noble....

3. Not true. Read De Sote (South American Economist). Actually credit

in the form of bank loans on your future earnings so you can buy a house or go to college - make for a growing middle class.

It isn't that one person wins with business. It just depends on the morals of the government.

When elites are in power - like in south america for so long - they morph and skew governance so that people don't get title to their land and it is easy to make a buck because the poor have so many hoops they have to jump through. When the laws are clear and there is some transfer of wealth every generation - you get a middle class. And that becomes a huge engine to all the businesses. Every single business benefits form a middle class that gets access to the same laws as big elites.
