Talk about knocking it out of the park. This is very serious. Bone is a very bright guy. He's not saying this lightly. Things must be much worse than even we suspect.

NAACP chairman compares GOP to NazisBond delivers blistering partisan speech in North Carolina

Julian Bond

Civil rights activist and NAACP Chairman Julian Bond delivered a blistering partisan speech at Fayetteville State University in North Carolina last night, equating the Republican Party with the Nazi Party and characterizing Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and her predecessor, Colin Powell, as "tokens."

"The Republican Party would have the American flag and the swastika flying side by side," he charged.

Calling President Bush a liar, Bond told the audience at the historically black institution that this White House's lies are more serious than the lies of his predecessor's because Clinton's lies didn't kill people.

4. *ush let 'em drown because they were brown.
I will never forgive *ush for NoLa - especially allowing the DNR to turn back the citizen flotilla and allowing people in nursing homes to die. Or for sitting on his ass in Crawford while a fully equiped Naval ship was just waiting on his orders with doctors, beds, water and food on board and anxious boots ready to hit the ground if he'd just said the word.

But then he likes playing those kind of games. He's let people freeze to death by refusing to extend energy assistance programs until February - it takes 2 months after he's signed it for the rest of the process to kick in. April.

The press, however, will try to turn this into 'Pat Robertson' moment, but I'm sure it will get its share of play time. LOL This is great!!!

This hate rhetoric from Julian Bond is just as bad as Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell on the right. This kind of claptrap should stay out of public discourse.

37. recruiter???
Who's talking about recruiters?? All I'm saying is that vicious hatespeech on either side does nothing but make the speaker sound like a fool. It completely reduces the impact of what he's trying to say.

No real person is going to believe that * would fly the American flag next to the swastika just as no real person would believe that Ariel Sharon had a stroke because he gave up the Gaza.

Hate speech is wrong. It may make you feel better. But it's the first step in losing an argument.

30. Look at the source, Julian Bond. Why is he this upset, adamant.
This is a news story but well worth discussing. What is going on in the black community that leads a temperate individual like Bond to make such a statement. He's been around a long time and he's pretty savvy. Why did he say this? That's what interests me. It's not Mike Malloy saying this, it's Julian Bond. I find it fascinating. I'm tolerant but I'm also more than willing to listen and evaluate this due to the profound intollerance displayed by * and company of people, places, and even reality.

You have a good point. I'm not sure that I'd jump to that quite yet but what the heck, it's interesting at least.

27. I have to agree with Bond
And this shouldn't just include the concerns of black people, either. Bush hates gays, people of opposing faiths to his (whatever his really is), and pretty much anyone and everything else that isn't just like him.

I'm shocked when I meet a black Republican. The two just don't seem to mix in my book. Same thing goes for gay Republicans.

Living on the Bush Plantation is worse than a bubble, it's a completely different culture in a different world, with exceptions made for no one.

Sometimes the truth hurts.

happening again is to ignore all historical parallels, and pretend Hitler was an anomaly rather than a very real person who did things that other humans are capable of.

speaking of which don't you hate it when Pol-Pot gets lumped in with Hitler? It's not like Pol-Pot killed 6 million Jews. Totally ridiculous.

49. I know people here hate centrists...
But speaking as a moderate, and speaking as someone who knows a lot of moderates and independents, this isn't the way to go.

Everybody I've talked to has problems with the Bush Administration. Whether its for one specific things or for a variety of things; whether its for domestic or foreign policies; whether its specifically about Bush or about his administration or Republicans in general; everyone I've talked to, including conservatives, has found something to oppose the Bush Administration on. That's very promising for Democrats in the future. And the absolute quickest way to blow that advantage is through hate speech like this.

The people that I know that have problems with Bush are hesitant to support him, but they don't hate him, and they don't think he's evil. They have disagreements with the Republican Party in Washington, but they don't doubt their patriotism, and they don't feel any personal malice towards them. And while this sort of talk on our side may not drive them into the arms of the GOP, it will do the next worst thing: cause them to stay home on Election Day.

Now is the time to present a message, not extremist hate speech. And while I know that the NAACP doesn't represent the DNC, its important for Democrats to disavow comments like these for the benefit of the party, and for the benefit of America. Its important for our leaders to stand up and say "We agree with the NAACP and its values on many issues important to this country, but we feel that their characterization of the Republican Party is unfair. The Republican Party is corrupt, self-centered, and fighting against a progressive agenda, but they are not evil, just wrong on the issues. We believe if you take a look at where we stand, and take a look at where they stand, you'll come to the same conclusions."
