I was gone for a couple of hours...Why is the Senate STILL in session?

1. Vote-a-rama on the Tax bill

This is the bill that has the vote in it to re-authorize the Bush tax cuts. The Dems are trying to get amendments passed that would make the tax code fairer to working Americans. The Rethugs are trying to reward their base too: the haves and the have-mores.

After they finish slapping down all Dem attempts to make the tax code better for average people, they will have a voice vote on extending the Patriot Act for another month. (Well, there are some of those meaningless 'Sense of the Senate' resolutions that allow Rethugs to say, gee it would be nice to make tax law that actually is fair and progressive, as long as we don't actually have to do it.)
