These lame senators who voted for cloture don't need to make any more
statements. They let us know what their position was. They are legislative eunics. They sold out our party, they sold out our children and they sold out our country. That is the statement that will stick.

2. Oh come on......
The appointment was a done deal. A filibuster would not have stopped the appointment. We lost this battle when we lost the Senate and the Presidency.

4. 42 senators voted No on Alito if they voted No on Clouture, we
wouldn't have this problem,, the repugs would never gotten the Nuclear Option on this nomination.

8. There's some legitimacy to your argument, but here's the problem

You are correct that it is shaky to fillibuster a nominee because we don't like his ideology. It does perhaps set a precedent that a minority of senators will block a nominee every time, not allowing the president to make appointments that are even close to his ideology.

That being said, the supreme court is already conservative and adding someone with Alito's ideology to a conservative court can be seen by many as DANGEROUS to the country and to the constitution. We have never had a president and congress that have been pushing for a judiciary as far right wing as they are pushing for now. Sandra Day O'Conner is considered liberal by the religious WRONG but she was considered a conservative at the time of her appointment. We have just allowed the right wing to frame the debate and shift the country to the right.

Also keep in mind that when Clinton made his appointments he consulted with Orrin Hatch even though the GOP was in the minority. The result was that he appointed two slightly left leaning moderates that the GOP calls far left wingers because they have the nerve to uphold civil rights. The right wing thinks that upholding civil rights is far left wing. I consider upholding civil rights stare decisis and not left wing in any way at this point in time.

What bothers me is that I know that most of those 25 senators who voted against cloture were playing politics with their vote. Obama was at least very honest about what he was doing.

7. The list of those in favor of cloture will became a classic in the
history of American politics. Those Dems cowards made a serious miscalculation. And the Senators that voted against it were doing the right and smart thing. Courage was such a big factor. They realized that in a few years, their dissent will be their weapon.
