Me? I'm Energized!
While disappointed with the lack of a filibuster on the Alito nomination, I think it was doomed to fail anyway. That's why, even though I wish this nomination could have been stopped, I did not want to put all of my eggs into one basket. For those of you that will say; "Eff 'em, I'm not voting Dem anymore", I ask that you step back and consider the consequences of a 70-30, or 80-20 Repuke majority in the U.S. Senate.

Because in reality, that is what this is all about. Before we can stop wing-nut judges from being appointed, before we can stop the busting of Unions, the class warfare against the middle and lower class, discrimination, corruption, destruction of the social safety net, conservative takeover of the media, strict religious indoctrination, puritanism, etc., we need to START WINNING ELECTIONS!!!

If anything, this should "energize" the base, not demoralize it. The American people, and Democrats in particular, have lived up to that old axiom, "when the going gets tough, the tough get going". It's past time to "get going".

Polls, for what their worth, show that the majority of American people share our values, our ideals, and support our issues. More importantly than polls, the people that you meet everyday share our values, our ideals, and support our issues.

The Repukes, Faux News, right-wing think-tanks, and most notably, talk radio, have made a living and gained prominence by PLAYING ON THE FEARS OF AMERICANS

- fear of homosexuals
- fear of blacks
- fear of swarthy men in beards
- fear of secularists
- fear of strong woman
- fear of unions
- fear of sex

FEAR, FEAR, FEAR!!!

The American people (some of them anyway) have been turned into spineless little wimps by the constant straw-man (boogey-man) that is lurking out there ready to homosexualize their kids, take their jobs, take their money, close their churches, change the traditional roles of women, rape and sodomize their daughters, or blow them up. That boogey-man is played like a sweet violin by the Repukes on a constant basis. It's so easy for them. All they have to do is convince enough Americans that the reason something in their lives is not going well, is because there is a liberal boogey-man holding them down. If something is not going well in your life, wait a second...the neo-cons will find a "liberal boogey-man" to blame.

I'll say one thing for the wing-nuts. Fear is a pretty good motivator. They developed a plan and implemented it over the last 20 years. They've got Freakers on school-boards, they've got wing-nuts at every position from dog-catcher, to sheriff, to pResident. They've got think-tanks, they've got a major slice of the media, they've done their homework. They right letters to the editor, they call radio programs, they donate money, they storm the offices of local governments during vote recounts. We're going to have to fight them like you fight a cancer, or a very persistent tape-worm. We need to match their energy. We need to match their pocket-books. We need to match their zeal.

Fear is a good motivator. I'm pretty darn scared for my country right now. I'm ready to roll up my sleeves and do what I can to get the Democratic Party back in the majority.

I'm not defending the Dems that did not support the filibuster, but put yourselves in their shoes. Want to stop Alito? Make the Senate 55-45 in favor of the Dems. If we do that, and still get a wing-nut like Alito, then you can blame the Democratic Party.

I myself am going to work as hard as I can to get every Dem elected. I personally, am going to write letters, donate money, volunteer my time, hand out fliers, and talk to every single American that I can and show them that they ARE JUST LIKE ME!!

1. A great post.
We must start winning elections. That counts for more than anything else. Thanks for your thoughts.

2. That is the key, isn't it?
Slamming the Dems for not stopping Alito is like blaming a woman for getting raped

or,

Kicking the bloody and beaten 98 pound weakling while he's laying on the ground after the 900 pound gorilla kisked his ass
