12. Head injuries are not good.
I would consider that to be much worse than losing a limb.

January 29, 2006 - ABC News anchor Bob Woodruff has apparently suffered head injuries and is undergoing surgery after an explosion while he was doing some reporting from Iraq.

The reports came during ABC's Sunday edition of Good Morning America.
Woodruff was apparently taping a report about the Iraqi military from inside one of their mechanized military vehicles. It encountered an improvised explosive device.

Some small arms fire followed, according to reports on Good Morning America.

Woodruff and another news staffer working for Good Morning America both suffered head injuries and are being treated. They are listed in serious condition.

21. So Is This "Covering The Good News?"
If he was embedded with a heavily armed force, that says a lot about how things have deteriorated in that country.

I suspect targeting is going on there and our military is being drawn so thin that its making these type of attacks easier and easier. Occupations always have a greater cost on the occupier than the occupied.

Peace...

32. hopefully
some of the actual attack will have been recorded or at the least reported accurately so folks in the USA get a real sense of how damn "safe" Iraq is.

34. I Remember Seeing The Tet Footage...January '68
That was a shocker for a little shit like me...and for millions of others. Not that there hadn't been war on TV before, but here it was real guts, real blood, real lives. Unfortunately, this may be the only way this war really comes home.

I agree that bringing it home on our TVs raw and bloody will be the only thing that stops this war.

23. The said head injuries. Not good. And not good for one's career,
either, although that isn't a primary consideration right now.

Remember, David Bloom died from illness from being inbedded (I remember it being a pulmonary embolism) back in 2003. I think he had a pretty bright future with NBC.

I hope Woodruff and Vogt pull through okay.

Jan. 29, 2006 — "World News Tonight" anchor, Bob Woodruff and his camera man, Doug Vogt, are both in serious condition after they were hit by an improvised explosive device in Taji, Iraq, today.

Woodruff is undergoing surgery at the U.S. military hospital in Balad, where Vogt also is being treated.

Woodruff, Vogt and their four-man team were traveling in a convoy with the Iraqi army. They were in a mechanized vehicle when the explosive went off. The exposion was followed by small arms fire.

Both men suffered head injuries. Woodruff sustained shrapnel wounds and Vogt was hit by shrapnel in the head and suffered a broken shoulder.

Both were wearing body armor, helmets and ballistic glasses. They had been traveling in a U.S. armored humvee, but then transferred into the Iraqi vehicle. Vogt and Woodruff are embedded with the 4th Infantry Division.
