Saw Brokeback tonight for the first time...
Yes, it was a really good movie, but I wanted to point out that the attendance was also still great. There were older couples, young couples, gay couples, and young girls. It was almost a packed theatre. This movie has been out for about a month and people are still coming out to see it. It felt good.

I'm sick and tired of the homophobia in this country so it was nice to see what I saw tonight.

FWIW, I'm a married straight male.

1. One of my freeper board members went to the "liberal theater"
in town to see it and actually liked it.

3. what a great movie

in my book ,the fact that they were gay was incidental to the fact that they loved. I think that once a movie like this comes out and is embraced, there's no going back, and I say amen to that. Hope Ang Lee wins the Oscar!

4. That's how I feel
about tv shows and films that feature interracial relationships. I'd love to see it get to the point where it's just a relationship that doesn't have to be labelled as 'gay' or 'interracial.' It's just two people that love each other and want to go through life together.

5. I liked it a lot

My daughter is gay and I am so sick of these homophobes telling her and me that there's something wrong with her. She is brilliant, beautiful and a lesbian and I love her dearly.

9. I just spent the evening with my sister and her girlfriend.
I love them both so much. I wish everyone was as wonderful and loving as they are. What a great world it would be. Your daughter is so lucky to have you as her mother. They must be protected by us from those who want to harm them.

As a gay son, I know how important it is to hear that. :-)

7. Heh. A guy where I work, a Rushbot, was starting into a diatribe about how
he was going to "GLADLY AVOID" seeing this movie, when me and the person next to me interrupted him by saying we'd seen it and enjoyed it very much.

Shut dude right the hell up, which made me happy.

10. That's one of the sad aspects of having * in the wh--
and rush limbaugh on the air. People like the one you describe assume that everyone is as hateful and ignorant as they are. They shoot off their mouth expecting everyone around them to jump in with bigoted choruses of agreement. Sickening...

12. Well when they live in the northern suburbs of Dallas, sadly, they are
usually correct in such an assumption. However, it is nice to "disabuse" people that everyone is a hateful ignorant idiot like them sometimes.

get to see it. I live in a very red county in south Tx.

11. Me too
last night. Very mixed crowd. Little bit of every flavor of folks. They all seemed to enjoy it. One of the best written, acted and directed films I have ever seen. Gets my vote for all the awards this year.

BTW I saw it in Metairie, La.....better known as Metry here in Nawlins.

:applause:

13. I want to see it but....
without reading spoilers, I just know there's something sad about it and so I have to *prepare* myself to go see it...something I do for every sad movie.

16. Good news, Dawgs. Glad to hear it, too.
The country is so up tight about sex generally and about gay sex particularly. I hope this film scores big at the box office.

Really encouraging post. Thanks.
