Can Bush and his boys be trusted to keep Mad Cow outta our cows?
One thing I've noticed about Bush and his pals is that they often pass laws or make regulations under public pressure, then refuse to enforce them. Considering the fact that banned cattle parts were found in shipments of beef to Japan, and that Canada recently found a new case with barely a reaction from our government, I think Bush and his pals are back at their "ignore the regs" tricks.

I almost never eat beef anymore simply because I don't trust the Bush Administration to do the right thing to control mad cow disease. I also have the happy experience of getting sick every time I eat chicken from the store. No doubt it's heavily infected with E-Coli, caused by a tolerance of fecal material all over the packing plant by companies who inspect themselves. I can't trust the Bush Administration to make sure the chicken I buy is safe, either. I haven't had any problems with pork yet, but no doubt Bush and his pals will start overlooking problems with trichinosis to boost pork producer $$$.

I'm thinking very seriously about turning vegetarian even though I don't feel as healthy when I eat that way. What's the alternative - mad cow, e-coli and trichinosis? Feeling blah from eating vegetarian is a much better alternative than serious Bush Administration induced illness. Lord knows Bush doesn't care about public health.

I wonder how many people would need to die horrible deaths before Bush would actually do anything to improve public health and our food supply?

1. Personally, I like my prions
Whatever they are, and I don't want my brain turning into soup.

Has this administration given you any reason to believe anything they say?

Please, somebody name one.

anybody?.... Bueller?

2. Think about it.....
The * admin can't get us flu shots, can't get ice or water to the victims of Hurricane Katrina, can't collect the dead bodies in New Orleans, can't tell the truth about anything important.........

3. Vegetarianism doesn't have to be "blah"
You just need to know how to cook, or shop. Nutrition should come naturally.

I'm vegan of all things, and I've never felt healthier.

Things are only going to get worse as mad cow, bird flu and who knows what else surfaces.

Seriously, if you're thinking about it, or if you just want some info or recipes, feel free to come visit the "tofu ghetto" in the Veg forum here at DU:

5. Thanks for the link. I'm going to check it out.
I've tried to eat vegetarian before, and I do have many meals with no meat, but I end up craving meat. What do you do about meat cravings?

6. To be honest
I can't really answer your question appropriately. I don't have meat cravings, though I do understand them (meat DOES taste good when prepared right). So, I don't "do" anything about them, and therefore can't directly give you an answer.

I will say this, most "meat" has been replaced by analogues. Bacon, sandwich slices, the Thanksgiving turkey, awesome sausage, hamburgers, ground beef...all replaced by like-tasting, healthier, protein packed alternatives. No cholesterol, either.

Likely what you crave is the texture, the chewing, the taste. All very understandable, which is why many of these products are available.

Really, you want good ideas as to alternatives, hit that link, and post "Hey, that freak flvegan said I should come here and ask what I can do about meat cravings." I do think you'll be not only pleased with what you get in replies, but also in the ideas you'll garner from the posters there. Great bunch of folks.

And recipes? Oh, my, but there are some gourmets there in the tofu ghetto.
