The re-birth of the "Kennedy Dynasty"
For the past few years everybody's been talking about the Bush dynasty and that the Kennedy dynasty and Camalot was dead. But I believe that the 4th generation of the Kennedy family (mostly RFK's grandchildren) will be a major force in the Democratic Party in the future.

RFK's grandson (Joe II's son) Matt Kennedy is Ted Kennedy's campaign manager for his re-election campaign this year. I think this is a good sign for the future of the party as a whole.

There may have been two Bushes in the White House and one Kennedy (so far), but when people think about a "political family dynasty" they still think of the Kennedys first. It's time for the Kennedys to take back the title of "America's #1 Political Family."

Interesting articles in the Beagle -- regional nickname for the Berkshire Eagle. I remember when it was on the conservative side.

5. I know you're right
but it makes my head spin thinking that they would actually have the audacity to do it.

And we both know they would.

Ps: She read a poem on Def Poetry Jam once. Wow. She and John were raised to be "of the people."

6. Jackie Kennedy was a TRUE First Lady...
not like thoughs Stepfords wives, Barbara and Laura.

Look at Jackie's kids: Caroline & John

Then look at Barbara and Laura's kids: George W., Jeb, Neil, Jenna and Barbara #2.

I'll give Marvin Bush some credit he's managed to stay out of the headlines for the most part (so far).

Caroline and John spent there time working for charities and didn't act like trust fund brats. Many of Bobby's kids do alot of good work too.

11. BTW, Welcome to DU!
Much of the charitable work John had done wasn't known until many thanked him posthumously in George Magazine. Truly a class act and the most exquisite male specimen ever.

18. Caroline has not only started coming out.....
....since John John's death, but she has stopped going by Caroline Kennedy Strossberg, and now it is just Caroline Kennedy. What does this mean? I have my hopes for the future, but who knows. And doesn't SHE have some grandkids of John F. Kennedy???

12. Are you kidding? . . .
.
Are you kidding? The Kennedy Family dynasty has been alive and well for years. There's been a continuing unbroken line of U.S. Senators, U.S. Representatives, president, and other public officials in the family since John Fitzgerald Kennedy (JFK) became a U.S. Representative from Massachusetts back in the 1950s, and long before that time!

WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?

Prior to 1950s the family political dynasty line went back in national politics to Ted and JFK's father Joseph P. Kennedy (Sr) as head of FDR's 1934 Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), then he was appointed ambassador to the U.K. in 1937 u/ FDR. And, prior to that the family dynasty goes back to local Boston politics to pre-WW1 when JFK's and Ted's mother Rose Kennedy's father John "Honey Fitz" Fitzpatrick was a member of the Massachusetts state senate and mayor of Boston as well as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives!

Today, not only is the Kennedy Dynasty in public service in politics, but many are also doing other public service in non-profit foundations, e.g., oil-distribution-for-the-poor-in-Massachusetts and lower-priced prescription drugs for seniors in Massachusetts (Joe Kennedy III son of RFK Sr) Citizen Oil Corporation, and Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.'s water conservation and litigation organization, Natural Resources Defense Council, Riverkeeper and Waterkeeper Alliance as well as a law professor at Pace School of Law re environmental law, and the list goes on and on regarding the public service of the Kennedy Clan.

And, you mentioned that
"RFK's grandson (Joe II's son) Matt Kennedy is Ted Kennedy's campaign manager for his re-election campaign this year. I think this is a good sign for the future of the party as a whole."

Correction: that makes the FIFTH generation in the Kennedy Dynasty, not the fourth. BTW, Robert F. Kennedy's son's name is Joseph P. Kennedy III (not II). The first Joseph P. Kennedy was RFK's, Ted's, and JFK's father. The second Joseph P. Kennedy was the first born son of Joe and Rose Kennedy who was also RFK's, Ted's and JFK's oldest brother. Joe Jr. died in WW2 serving the British Royal Air Force as a pilot before the USA entered WW2. Joe the III is RFK's son. And, as usual Ted Kennedy has once again chosen a member of the family to be his campaign manager. Ted does this to train other Kennedys in public service.

How many generations is it? 1? 2? 3? 4? . . . No, it's 5 generations of Kennedys! Now that's a dynasty in anybody's book!

Without question, the winner is the Kennedys who continue to serve us in public service across five generations.

(PBS has a great reference/resource of who's who as to Kennedys)

13. What I meant was...
there has not been a Kennedy as President of the United States since John F. Kennedy and to this date is the only Kennedy to be President. And that since Bobby was killed Ted has been the only Kennedy in the Senate. I know other Kennedys have served in various offices.

And since we are making corrections here. Bobby's son was not Joseph P. Kennedy, III (that's his grandson). Bobby's son was Joseph the II and his older brother (the one killed in World War II) was Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr.

=A short Kennedy family tree=

Joseph P. Kennedy, Sr. married Rose Fitzgerald

Two of Joe, Sr. and Rose's many children were:

Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr. (1915-1944, died in WW II)
and
Robert F. Kennedy

Robert F. Kennedy marred Ethel Skakel

One of Robert and Ethel's many children is:

Joseph P. Kennedy, II (the former Congressman)

Joseph P. Kennedy, II married Sheila Rauch (they later divorced)

Joseph the II and Shelia had twin boys in 1980:

Matthew R. Kennedy
and
Joseph P. Kennedy, III

22. Considering how many children they all had,
I wonder how many grandchildren and great grandchildren and great great grandchildren Joseph Sr and Rose have? Looking at the family tree at wikipedia, it has to be many.

15. Kennedey Legacy
This is a genuine question from across the pond, because he was cut off in his prime JFK recieves huge respect and admiration, given that some of his indiscretions would have made later scandals seem like nothing was he really the great president that he seems to be remembered as and how would he have coped with what is now the full glare of the media and the 24 hour news cycle?

16. WHO wants a "family" political dynasty?
I think it turns off more voters than not, outside of Mass and perhaps parts of New England. Particularly since Bush I and II. I couldn't see myself ever voting for a legacy candidate....sorry I want fresh people...regular people.

I like the Kennedys, but I think the Democratic Party needs to try to get new blood in the party. The Democratic Party should look to recruit people with new last names.
