Gore's speech was great ... and it was bi-partisan too

too many of DU's rah-rah Democrats will see only Gore's intense criticism of bush in his speech today ... the threats bush poses to the loss of Constitutional freedom was, indeed, the primary focus of Gore's speech ... among other things, Gore called for the appointment of a special counsel to investigate the crimes of this administration ...

but he also emphasized that the Congress, including both Democrats and republicans, has failed to safeguard our system of checks and balances ... specifically, Gore said:

I call upon Democratic and Republican members of Congress today to uphold your oath of office and defend the Constitution. Stop going along to get along. Start acting like the independent and co-equal branch of government you're supposed to be.

Gore then took his case a step further by calling on the American people to get more actively involved:

But there is yet another Constitutional player whose pulse must be taken and whose role must be examined in order to understand the dangerous imbalance that has emerged with the efforts by the Executive Branch to dominate our constitutional system.

We the people are-collectively-still the key to the survival of America's democracy. We-as Lincoln put it, "ven we here"-must examine our own role as citizens in allowing and not preventing the shocking decay and degradation of our democracy.

It may sound, or may even be, radical to call for the kinds of democratic renewal Gore is talking about ... he's showing us how dangerous our situation has become and urging us all to renew our democracy ... it actually is kind of radical ... he's essentially talking about overthrowing those with power in our government and demanding that they obey the rule of law ... anyone who stands in the way of this democratic revolution, be they Democrats or republicans, should be thrown out on their collective asses ... it's time to put the survival of the republic ahead of partisan political concerns ... if certain Democrats refuse to fight this battle, we're better off without them ... it's time to find the Democrats who are willing to really lead on these critical issues ... automatic support for Democrats without regard to their votes and their actions is ill-conceived ... all are welcome; those who turn us down should be pushed aside ...

it is time to put ISSUES ahead of POLITICS ...
