Best Republican Senators: here's the list: & here's why
it took me hours to do this (in fact it took me an entire freakin day)
(bkkd = boxer, kerry, kennedy, durbin who usually vote together)

the winners:
LINCOLN CHAFEE: voted 63% with bkkd
OLYMPIA SNOW: voted 56% with bkkd
SUSAN COLLINS: voted 53% with bkkd
ARLEN SPECTER: voted 41% with bkkd (gasp!)
(call the top three for an alito filibuster)
most "conservative" was mcconnell who voted with bkkd 5.37%

MY RESEARCH:
i looked at all the votes for 2005
there were 366
i did not include the votes where a large majority voted together (around 80 or so--unless a republican voted in the minority with other bkkd)
i did not inlcude votes where all dems voted one way and republicans voted the other way.

i looked at split votes(where at least one republican crossed over with bkkd)

my baseline was boxer, kennedy, kerry and durbin (bkkd)
(on the votes where they split their vote i did not include; i did use one or two votes where durbin voted against bkk and counted any republican who voted with bkk.)

that left me with 205 votes that i looked at. out of 205, here's the republican vote count (with the "friendliest" having the most votes listed)
129 chafee
114 snowe
108 collins
84 specter
80 dewine
59 coleman

1. there is no such thing
as a good Republican Senator. They vote for the extreme right leadership and that is the most important vote. Those in power control the agenda.

2. Wow! Good work!
It's very interesting the way that you broke it down. I'm not too surprised about Specter being fourth. As a Pennsylvanian, I'm torn between loathing him and liking him. As compared to Santorum, of course. Frist would probably be closer to McConnell if you take into account when he has to vote with the Dems in order to call the vote back up.

Maybe I'll try this to find out who the true DINO's are. Unless you do it first! Who would you use as the baseline there? Santorum, Brownback, Frist & McConnell?

Anyway, pat yourself on the back for hours well spent! And thanks for sharing.

5. searching for the DINOs....hum....good idea
we could use republicans for the "comparrison"

or what about just doing a tally on who voted against boxer, kennedy, kerry & durbin the most?

4. Warner is my senator. Allen is a lost cause. I will call Warner's office
and appeal to his Navy background. He swore to protect the Constitution, not to see it shredded.

6. we could get so many answering machines over the weekend
and just leave messages--no need to tell them if so-and-so is your senator (unless they are)-- just leave your name & tell them you want then to filibuster alito.

I'm just listening to Malloy and waiting for the next run of an application I'm testing.

looked at all the votes for 2005

But, comparing all votes for 2005 winds up being meaningless because every vote is influenced by local interests, population demographies and how their vote effects the entire state.

This vote is not supposed to be based on the population desires, but on the man's qualifications. bush gets to pick em and the senate gets to say whether or not he's qualified.

I think we will find there are not being to be many rethugs being pressured by people outside their states or special interest groups to change their vote.

Of, course the biggest reason senators will not be influenced very strongly is there IS NO FREAKING MONEY COMING THEIR WAY TO VOTE A CERTAIN WAY

with McConnell and Kyl, considering how much he likes to bend over for the Regime.

20. You need to look at the issue . This one deals with Civil Liberties
On matters of Civil Liberties, you need to pick out the Libertarians in the party as well as the Pro Choice women (naturally).

I think Voinivich needs to be way up above Dewine. by the way Dewine is on the committee after watching him action for the past five years and on this committee, i figure he should be on the bottom of this list, or close to Cornyn, Sessions, and Brownback and Hatch should be on the bottom tier too.

On this issue with SCOTUS - the people to lobby in my opinion, would be Snow, Collins, Chafee, Hagel, McCain, and Voinivich. Maybe Specter would be good, just to let him know there is opposition.

22. Talk to me about McCain - I have to claim him
and Kyl - but look at where Kyl is on the list-ugh.

It has been on my mind all weekend how to approach McCain, and if he could be swayed.
I have been thinking about the torture issue and how Alito could give bsh a free pass.

Anyone who has any ideas - please post, or pm.
Looking for a zinger - a great talking point that might make him think.

23. I agree with your assessment.
On my secret list of how I think they'll vote, I have enough for us to filibuster. We'll lose about the same number of Dems as we gain in Pubs.

I don't think we get Specter, though. They neutered him as his condition for his chairmanship.

In the end, they almost all compromise themselves to cling to power.

24. Well, forget Snowe, Collins and Chafee. They won't filibuster.
Or so the Boston Globe reported Friday. I just read the article.

I'm afraid some Dems may take the cowards way out, too.

Vote against confirmation, but refuse to filibuster.

25. If you call yourself a Republican today you are evil. The core values
of the Republican Party are War, Torture, Greed, Deception, etc. If you don't renounce these values, you are evil. Yes the Republican Party was hi-jacked. But the rank and file are just following alone like lemmings. Sweet old grandpa that votes Republican gives them the power to do their evil.
