Maybe its just me, because Im new here
But there seems to be A LOT of hostility here directed at the Dean supporters..

I have noticed a few people dissing Kerry and what not, but if you don't like a candidate, thats find and dandy, thats your opinion and you're entitled to it, but no need to bash somebody just because they support that candidate.. (Unless its GWB ;-) ) I just don't understand where all this hates coming from? We all want Bush out of the office correct? Why insult the people who are fighting the same war on the same side, but just from a different troop?

1. There is a history behind it
There was an all out war between the two camps for a long time here. It got really nasty. That is the backdrop of what you are seeing now.

2. Get used to it
Things in this forum get pretty nasty, and Dean and his supporters have been taking the brunt of it for a while now. I think most of that is because he was the front-runner, but I'm still waiting for that to go away.

And welcome to DU!

3. well..
as I've been saying for months, the attacks come from all directions, against all the candidates.

Clark supporters notice the Clark slams, Kerry supporters notice the Kerry slams, Dean supporters notice the Dean slams....

No one side has the monopoly on either victimhood or good behavior.

6. It goes in waves:
round and round she goes! It hits all candidates. What's most interesting is the hatred directed at Lieberman when he has virtually NO support here.

The Dean-Kerry-Clark merry-go-round is pretty much par for a heated primary season.

Edwards doesn't engender so much because, IMO, he's just so darn nice - LOL.

Welcome!

Believe it or not, though, I won't be hammering him. I have no feelings about him one way or the other. I'm not happy with his IWR vote but at least he has SOME kind of excuse for it, coming from North Carolina.

9. It's just been
about as mcuh fun as a bag of hammers around here the past few months. Unfortunately, being a Democrat and being respectful and polite are not all inclusive.

Most everyone is pretty polite but the few that aren't really stand out. It's calmed down a bit since the rules have changed.

Welcome to DU. I suspect it will settle down once we have a candidate.

the Clark supporters got on my nerves - now the pro-Kerry seem to be emboldened.

Maybe it's defensiveness - maybe it's that they are trying to get the Dean people to stand aside - I hear a lot of that.

I'm just tired of certain crybabies on this board taking cheap shots at Kerry and flat out stating, "Kerry needs to be taken down" then crying foul if anything about Dean is questioned.
I support all of our candidates and I am ABB all the way.

12. It's just because it's the primaries
and because Dean is your guy, so you're probably more attuned to anti-Dean stuff, just like I am. EVERYONE is getting hammered here though, believe me.

For the sake of the candidate I support, I wish the primary season was longer. For my own sake, I wish they were over tomorrow.

13. The rule you have to follow is this:
If Dean does it, "it's negative." If Kerry does it, "it's just politics, the way of the world, and Bush will do far worse."

As long as you understand and follow that creed, everything will be all right.

Welcome to DU.

Cheers!

31. No I didn't miss it , I have seen much of what has gone on here.
The difference is you are applying what you want to the current situation. I distinctly remember when Dean got the Gore endorsement, Kerry supporters being graciously congratulatory. I saw many threads with "Kerry Is Finished." In fact, one of Dean's most fierce critics has been an Edwards supporter but he does not attack Dean but rather addresses issues concerning Dean. Look at the first page here, you'll find one about the appearance of Teresa Heinz Kerry (total cheap shot imo), and many more claiming Kerry used dirty tricks to win in IA and NH (more cheap shots). Gee we have not had our Skull and Bones thread for the day. I have never attack any of our candidates but I do take issue with other candidate supporters who have stated on this message board that "Kerry needs to be taken down" or "I am working hard to take Kerry down" and then want to claim Kerry supporters are a bad group baahing them for their support of their candidate. You know who you are.
So whatever, I recall many flame wars between Clark supporters and Dean supporters.

41. Whatever!
Edited on Fri Jan-30-04 05:50 PM by sistersofmercy
I recall the issue about Dean's sealed records coming up often and I know who was the biggest critic on that one. I even stood up for Dean when he stated, "I'll unseal my records if bush* unseals his." I thought it was hilariously audacious, something I like about Dean. The whole sealed record thing was never a big deal to me so I didn't hang on those threads, I figured it was something Dean would use against bush* during GE if he was the Dem nominee. Although, admittedly I could be wrong about that assumption, if indeed Dean intends to challege bush* about sealed records, I think it's brilliant.
Edited to add, I'm definitely one of the few non Dean supporters who feels this way.

42. Interesting.
You make a claim that doesn't wash with what's gone on around here, and your response to having that pointed out is "Whatever?" If you didn't care, then why make such a claim in the first place?

I'm glad that you were apparently fair in regard to the sealed records, but that was only one of dozens of bullets aimed at Dean by a number of Kerry supporters in the months leading up to Iowa.

23. For me, to extent I've been negative to Dean supporters....
it's because Dean supporters have been particularly vicious against the candidate I support, as well as other candidates. I support Clark, and no negativity from Kerry or any of the other supporters reached the level of viciousness I read from Dean supporters.

A history of quite a few "attack" posts by Dean supporters has left its mark.

After reading one post by a Dean supporter a couple of weeks ago, complaining that so many posters were attacking Dean, I counted up the negative/attack/hostile posts for the first 20 posts on the screen (I didn't have time to do more). There were four. All four were by Dean supporters against other candidates.

24. No, it's not just you
there are some terribly venal and spiteful people on these boards, and for one reason or another most of them don't like Dean.

Cripes,I'm a Clark guy and we get our share, but seriously, I've seen an concentrated agenda here that seems to have driven some of my favorite posters away. The obvious animosity towards Dean supporters on this board is much too thick to deny.

The only question I have is, what's behind it , and what REALLY motivates it.

Fortunately from what I gather as a longtime (18 months) lurker, is that the meanest posters in this board never really see the light of day to inflict their bile on innocent passersby, and in that sense, DU is a true public service.

Not everyone agrees that the democratic party is going to stay together , Dean bashing doesn't help this.

There's a tremendous rage against the status quo out there and if you think it will go away by nominating another noble guy who will lose in a close election, paving the way for Hillary in 08, well, a lot of formerly very loyal democrats aren't gouing to take it lying down.

I don't think. :) We're just passionate and opinionated. We all have different ideas about who the right person is to lead this party out of this tragedy we all find ourselves living through. Some of us feel the party is headed in the wrong direction. Others don't. But in the end the party will unite to get that bum out of Al's house. Yes we will! In the meantime though, it may be a little hard on you here. You'll get used to it. If there's a thread or a poster you just can't handle you can hit the ignore button. But don't run off.

Thanks for the warm welcomes :-) and I just wanna say that I do get your point, especially if your candidates been attacked in the past by others, but why not just target your hate to those other posters, and not all of us as a whole. Only all of us together, can get Bush out of the White House, not one specific candidate can do it alone, he needs the support of everyone. If you think the press is bad now on Dean and Kerry, just imagine how much worse its gonna get as we get to November. We all need to stick together and stop Bush.

I have also seen those posts saying "If ________ doesn't win, Im voting for Bush!" and no matter if its Dean, Clark, Kerry, Edwards, Kucinich, Sharpton, Lieberman, WHOEVER, it just shows that you don't really care about changing America from the mess its in.
I can say right now, that no matter who wins the primaries, EVEN Sharpton or LiebermaN! I will vote and throw my full support for that person come November.
