Evangelist links Israeli leader's stroke to 'dividing God's land'

Thursday, January 5, 2006; Posted: 7:08 p.m. EST (00:08 GMT)

(CNN) -- Television evangelist Pat Robertson suggested Thursday that Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's stroke was divine retribution for the Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, which Robertson opposed.

"He was dividing God's land, and I would say, 'Woe unto any prime minister of Israel who takes a similar course to appease the , the United Nations or the United States of America,'" Robertson told viewers of his long-running television show, "The 700 Club."

"God says, 'This land belongs to me, and you'd better leave it alone,'" he said.

Robertson's show airs on the ABC Family cable network and claims about 1 million viewers daily.

Sharon, 77, clung to life in a Jerusalem hospital Thursday after surgery to treat a severe stroke, his doctors said.

The prime minister, who withdrew Israeli settlers and troops from Gaza and parts of the West Bank last summer over heated objections from his own Likud Party, was breathing with the aid of a ventilator after doctors operated to stop the bleeding in his brain.

24. Perhaps it is because Pat Robertson has millions of sheep fuckers
as his followers that take his word as Gospel. Since the rightwing controls the media, every word that Pat and his other cohorts among the Christian Jihadists, has an effect on the gullible public.

2. I thought God "smote" everyone when it's their turn. And if it is God's
land only, why did God allow the Arabs to own it for about 2000 years. Why isn't Pat Robinson in a funny farm. Is he now against America? He's just insane, like the rest of the right wing nuts.

Salient clip: Biblical tourism

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Plans for Holy Land theme park on Galilee shore where Jesus fed the 5,000

· Evangelical groups and Israel on brink of deal
· Some Israelis fear motives of US Christian right

Conal Urquhart in Tel Aviv
Wednesday January 4, 2006
The Guardian

The Israeli government is planning to give up a large slice of land to American Christian evangelicals to build a biblical theme park by the Sea of Galilee where Jesus is said to have walked on water and fed 5,000 with five loaves and two fish.
A consortium of Christian groups, led by the television evangelist Pat Robertson, is in negotiation with the Israeli ministry of tourism and a deal is expected in the coming months. The project is expected to bring up to 1 million extra tourists a year but an undeclared benefit will be the cementing of a political alliance between the Israeli rightwing and the American Christian right.
...

Perhaps no one TOLD PAT that the land abutted some disputed Syrian territory, which, if returned to Syria, would place Pat's JESUSLAND smack-dab in the middle of the Israeli-Syrian DMZ, as it were.

Buffer fundies!!!

Has Pat ever read the New Testament, do you think? You know, about forgiveness and love and stuff?

16. God got Medieval on his ass
That'll teach him as he languishes in the burning pits of Sulphur.

Although, I've always thought that Magnesium would make better pits. A higher oxidation temperature would make 'em suffer even more. I've got to write some letters....

Unfortunately, we don't have laws covering that.

He's been in "prayerful meditation" trying to figure out a way to keep the fundy freeks sending money.

It's the End Times and the Lord will need plenty of dough for THAT!

EDIT: BTW, is this really a political msg? Shouldn't it be in the Mentally 'Round the Bend forum? ;)

20. The Christian Right is inherently anti-Semitic
They love us Jews alright! They need us so that they can murder the whole lot of us right after we refuse to accept the divinity of their Jesus. The scariest part is that they are in control of the government, and they will do their dam nest to make sure their interpretation of non-canonical prophesies in the Christian Bible come to pass.

Pat Robertson represents that segment of Christianity that wants to shove their Anglo-Saxon Jesus up our collective asses, and without lubrication.

It is time for the mainstream Christians to condemn this fraud and his fraudulent cult that he tries to pass as Christianity.

22. Absalom Willis Robertson must be spinning in his grave.
Pat Robertson's father, Absalom Willis Robertson, was a Democratic congressman (1933-46) and senator (1946-66) from Virginia.

23. Actually there not that far apart.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Absalom_Willis_Robertson

"Robertson had a typically socially conservative Southern Democrat voting record"

"In 1956, Robertson was one of the 19 senators who signed The Southern Manifesto, condemning the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Brown vs. Board of Education and the resulting public desegregation. When President Lyndon Johnson sent the First Lady on a train trip through the South to encourage support for the Civil Rights and Voting Rights Acts, Sen. Robertson was one of four Southern Senators who refused to meet with her on the whistle stop trip."

Remember Democrats, especially Southern Democrats were alot different back then.
