Lehrer Interview with Bush - Got to give Lehrer credit for trying to get a

straight answer from Bush about his spying on the American people. By refusing to say anything and dancing around it and saying he only act legally (yeah right ::pfft:: ) he basically sounded like he was saying yeah I did but I have that right. Other then that it was sadly pretty much SSDD... 9-11, Iraq, terrorists, stay the course, etc to Bush.

PRESIDENT BUSH: --that's important not to talk about, and the reason why is that we're at a war with an enemy that still wants to attack.

I-- after 9/11, I told the American people I would do everything in my power to protect the country, within the law, and that's exactly how I conduct my presidency.

JIM LEHRER: Mr. President, in all due respect, don't you believe that answer is going to lead people to believe that you're confirming that in fact you did this?

PRESIDENT BUSH: We don't talk about sources and methods. Don't talk about ongoing intelligence operations. I know there's speculation. But it's important for the American people to understand that we will do-- or I will use my powers to protect us, and I will do so under the law, and that's important for our citizens to understand.

5. Bush kept saying ...

... he has a plan for success in Iraq, a plan for victory. Why didn't Lehrer ask him to share it with the rest of us?

7. Without looking at the site... Bush presented his normal "plan" of....

stay the course... and after Lehrer pressed him a bit I believe Bush actually said the BS words again "when the Iraqis stand up we'll stand down".

Although it would have been great if Lehrer had called Bush more on a "plan" I tend to think Lehrer was pushing it a bit with his questions about Bush approving spying on Americans... I might be wrong but I don't think those "spy" questions were amongst those preapproved by Bush's handlers.
