Hope springs eternal: Frist visits New Hampshire
WP blog: The Fix
by Chris Cillizza
Frist Heads to the Granite State

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) will head to New Hampshire on Tuesday, making three stops during the day in this key presidential primary state.

Frist is scheduled to have lunch with a handful of activists in Concord, then head to a small private meeting in Manchester. He'll finish the day with a dinner in Portsmouth with 15 or so local party types, according to a GOP source familiar with the trip who requested anonymity. Frist was last in the Granite State in March when he addressed the Manchester Republican Party's Lincoln-Reagan Annual Dinner.

The Tennessee senator, who will retire from the chamber at the end of 2006, has made no secret of his interest in a national bid in 2008. He has used his leadership political action committee -- Volunteer PAC -- to sprinkle donations to Republican candidates around the country including those in early primary and caucus states like Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina.

Although his travel schedule to 2008 hotspots has slowed of late, Frist did keynote the Iowa Republican party Ronald Reagan Dinner on Oct. 22 (to somewhat mixed reviews). Last summer he made two trips within the space of a month to South Carolina.

Frist continues to be dogged by an ongoing investigation into his sale of stock in a company founded by his father and brother, but next week's trip seems to show he isn't letting that controversy get in the way of his presidential ambitions....
