Duke Cunningham Timeline (Crybaby Cunningham: from war hero to felon)
Some excerpts from this excellent article:

Oct 6, 1992: Cunningham makes the Washington Post's "Reliable Source" column by suggesting the liberal leadership of the House should be "lined up and shot.".

Oct. 9, 1992: The Los Angeles Times quotes Cunningham as urging President Bush to attack Bill Clinton's patriotism, telling him: "This is an issue that will kill Clinton when people realize what a traitor he is to this country. In some countries, if something like this came out, he would be tried as a traitor. Tokyo Rose had nothing over Clinton.".

May 11, 1995: A House debate over water pollution erupts in furor when Cunningham declares that lawmakers backing an amendment he opposed were the same people who support "homos in the military." Later, he calls Rep. Pat Schroeder, D-Colo., a "socialist.".

Nov. 17, 1995: Colleagues and Capitol police break up a scuffle that starts after Cunningham, a former Navy fighter pilot, tangles with Rep. James Moran, D-Va., who used to be an amateur boxer, during the debate on a Republican-sponsored resolution that would bar President Clinton from sending American troops to Bosnia without prior congressional approval.

2. Yes--when I saw him crying at his press conference today,
I had no idea what a lovely background this fine public servant had.

The article says he also cried while speaking in favor of invading Iraq. I'm starting to think the man has emotional problems.

Not to mention the fact that he's got the honesty of a Tom DeLay, the heart of a Dick Cheney, and the brains of a George W. Bush.

3. At first I felt genuinely sorry for his wife, who looked crushed
and then I read what he'd pled guilty to - among other things, accepting millions of dollars in homes, rugs, antiques, etc. - and the pity stopped. After all, where did she think he was getting this stuff on his $145,000/year salary - cutting coupons?

What goes around comes around.

6. Democrats Should Make a Move
Democrats should jump on this and make it a central theme of the 06' campaign. The Democrats should talk about all the Republican corruption and broken promises in the Congress. This is at least the second person on the Republican side to plead guilty to some form of corruption. In addition, I believe both of them plead guilty to some form of bribery. Furthermore, this thing is not over with. There are at least two other Republican Congressmen who are under investigation for corruption or have been pointed to as being involved in corruption. The 06' elections is the Democrats for the taking. All they have to do is call the Republicans out on their corruption and give the people an alternative to the Republican and they will win control of the Congress. I contend that they could even win many of the governor's races.
