Schmidt backtracks on Murtha
Rep. Jean Schmidt said Tuesday that she had "no idea" when she created an uproar on the House floor by saying "cowards cut and run, Marines never do" that she was addressing the remark to a fellow House member who is a much-decorated Marine veteran of Vietnam.

"I did not know he was a Marine or I would not have said it," the newly elected Republican congresswoman told The Enquirer Tuesday in an interview at her Kenwood district office.

The remark Schmidt made on the House floor Friday was directed at Rep. John Murtha, a 16-term Pennsylvania Democrat and a retired Marine colonel who earned two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star in Vietnam. Earlier last week, Murtha introduced a House resolution calling for an immediate withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq.

Am I the only one who's sick and tired of this notion that only decorated military folk have a patent on the truth? I don't care if Murtha ran to Canada in the 60s, he would STILL be right on the money and no more deserving of the cheap shots.

And another thing... I wish the so-called anti-cut-n-run crowd would ask their fuhrer to recant his "mission accomplished" victory declaration, otherwise why the fear of cutting and running if won the damned war already???

1. Didn't know, my foot
If she didn't know, why did she repeat the phrase from Bubp, "Marines never do"? Wouldn't that have clued her in right there?

And why make a statement at all if she did not have full information on the subject?

What's wrong with the voters in her district, that they would place trust in a person that incompetent?

She just effectively admitted, "Hey, I didn't do my job."

Idiot!

6. I have some advice for dear darling jean. Next time, try looking BEFORE
you leap, sweetcakes. Try researching your statements before you open your trap wide enough to stick half a dozen congressional feet into it. For heaven's sakes, THAT'S WHAT YOUR STAFF IS FOR. If you don't have enough time to look over the background of the person you've just GOTTA insult, and you're not sure what to do because you're such a newbie, THAT'S WHAT YOU HAVE STAFF PEOPLE FOR. THAT'S WHAT YOU HAVE COLLEAGUES FOR. Maybe you ought to run your asshole statements by somebody with a little more seniority before you go running off at the mouth.

I do indeed wonder how her constituents feel about her now. Not only did she make herself look frightfully bad (beyond just her permanently-attached Frau Blucher mask), she also made all of THEM look bad - for sending a shit like her to Congress to represent them, and speak for them, and be their advocate. She makes them look utterly moronic - at BEST, ill-informed and mean-spirited. At worst - well, you get the idea. The word "Hell" comes into play, I think.

8. I heard on one of the CNN talk shows (now I can't remember which one)
that Schmidt was "used" by some of the older heads in the GOP who wanted to hit back at Murtha, but didn't want the heat on their own heads, so they chose this dizzy b!tch who has only been there for 75 days and doesn't know her ass from a hole in the ground to deliver this message. She, of course, thought she was being honored by her colleagues, who were in reality, making a total asshole out of her.

That's what she gets for wanting to "fit in" so much that she made a total fool of herself!

Just remember SHE is what a majority of the people in her district were voting for. I can only hope they are quite satisfied with her performance.

7. I think you may have missed the point.
"Am I the only one who's sick and tired of this notion that only decorated military folk have a patent on the truth?"

It isn't only military people who have a lock on truth. The founding fathers made sure that the Commander in Chief would not be an active military figure. The outrage we see is because the attacks on anyone who speaks out against the war are leveled not at the ideas, but at the speaker.

Did Schmidt attack Murtha's re-deployment idea? No, she called him a coward.

Did the Repubs debate Murtha's idea? No they re-framed it as an immediate pull out and put up a sham vote on something nobody could support.

Anyone can speak and everyone should be heard but nobody should be attacked for speaking or listening.

9. Well, it was the right that decided during the Clinton
Edited on Sat Nov-26-05 05:32 PM by Catrina
years that unless you were a veteran, you couldn't speak with any credibility. The left never bothered to counter this back then. It was done to 'get' Clinton. Had the left been on the ball, they would have immediately announced the lack of service of the loud mouths who propounded this ridiculous idea, but back then, Democrats took the attitude that we were not going to get down in the gutter with these people.

As a result, most people never knew, eg, that Rush Limbaugh was a draft dodger, or any of the other finger-pointing, rightwingers. I assumed they were all veterans back then and didn't learn the truth until about two or three years ago.

But, since this is the rule they applied to Clinton, now they are stuck with it, and Schmidt just demonstrated how incredibly stupid a notion it is. Iow, she can call him a coward who wants to 'cut and run' so long as he's not a veteran. That was THEIR rule, let them wallow in it and try to make sense of it, now!! They can't. Their idiocy is clear for all to see. Either Murtha was right or he was wrong. His occupation has nothing to do with it.

.....

Aside from all of that, she is LYING again! Last week she said that her 'words were not DIRECTED at Murtha' ~ so she wasn't calling him a coward!! It was a general statement regarding those who wanted to pull out immediately, she said. NOW she says they WERE directed at him, but only because she didn't know he was a veteran!! Hillarious!

Oh, and has anyone asked her about her 'Col.' saying he never mentioned Murtha!! Oh, what webs we start to weave .....

It really is fun watching them implode, because they can no longer get away with their dirty tricks ~ they had a free ride for so long, they can't handle what's happening now, where they have to answer for their nasty little games. Like spoiled children, whose parents have allowed them to get away their temper tantrums, the righties have encountered some adults who will not tolerate their behavior anymore. Too bad it didn't happen sooner ~

12. Too late, Pruneface!
You can "apologize" for getting busted all you want, Schmidthead. Nothing will change the fact you smeared a war hero and a patrtiot for political gain.
