Fox tool John Gibson whines over his "incredibly vicious e-mails"

It's Thanksgiving eve, which means we're on the eve of the season of peace and goodwill towards men, and after reading all the hate mail ginned up by those hate e-mail Democratic blogs, I'm feeling like Madeline Khan in "Blazing Saddles." I'm tired. Pooped. I could fight. I like to fight. But tonight I just don't have the willpower to get in another battle with another ideologue in the war on the war or the war on Christmas or the battle over Murtha or the siege of Tom DeLay or the embattled George Bush, not to mention the hot war our folks are facing in Iraq.

But I'm amazed at some of the e-mails I get. I get incredibly vicious stuff. Not just name calling. I'm used to the "You're an idiot stuff" but the "You should die" stuff does kind of depress you after a while. Not so much that someone is wishing I would die, because nobody gets their wishes really, but because these people think this stuff passes for an intelligent thought. I can't tell you how many times I get a note from somebody who thinks I have done something stupid — taking a shortcut in a story, for instance, to get to the real point — and they go after me like they never made it out of third grade.

This is especially true of our so-called friends overseas. They feel perfectly entitled to vent about my hair, what I look like, what my racial ancestry is, where I went to school, how I got lucky enough to have this job all larded up with moronic insults. You wouldn't believe how many e-mails I got from people complaining that the loud and contentious Iraq vote a week ago in the House of Representatives was not on Murtha's proposal but Rep. Duncan Hunter's.

Look, it doesn't matter which House resolution was voted on. The fact is they were debating Murtha's call to pull out of Iraq. The Democrats and the far left have only one agenda — to hurt Bush. To do that they have to make sure every bomb that explodes in Iraq somehow winds up in Bush's lap so for that reason. And it's only going to get uglier. This war debate is going to go on and on and on.

29. Welcome to DU! I worked with him a LONG time ago at an all-news station

here in L.A. I was just starting, as an editor's assistant (read: glorified gofer) and he was one of the staff newswriters. All I ever saw him doing was hunkering down at his desk over his typewriter and the wire copy he was given to rewrite. He hardly ever looked up. That had to be 30 or so years ago... he was kinda (repeat - KINDA) cute back then, and I DID have a thing for red-haired guys. He just hardly ever looked up. I also envied him - well, envied everybody else in the whole frickin' newsroom because they all had REAL news jobs - writing, reporting, anchoring, editing - and I was just an entry-level wire-copy puller, coffee fetcher, and errand-runner. He was always mild-mannered, sort of quiet and retiring, and certainly pleasant in demeanor - especially to us "underlings."

But NOW - CRIMINY! He truly IS nothing but a Pox tool. Haven't seen him in about three decades or so, and I'm absolutely certain that he wouldn't remember me from Adam or Eve. Maybe it's just schtick. But dayum!

He says this hate-email is coming from "those hate e-mail Democratic blogs". Whatever the * that is... Is he saying he receives violent threats and incitements to violence from Democratic sites like this one that support an e-mail function? Maybe this odd designation: "hate e-mail Democratic blogs" is merely some kind of mythical all-embracing evil e-mail source he's confabulated for freeper consumption. Either way, this is a serious accusation. I'd like to see the evidence.

My impression is, this is a set up and, I believe, possibly a Rovian test balloon for a new campaign to marginalize dissenters. Lately I've been hearing more spin from the right - subtle stuff -- about hate speech and threats from "liberals".

Maybe it's just me, but I think we need to watch this and see if this meme starts showing up more as a talking point. It's no secret Bush wants the power to claim dissenters as enemy combatants.

If this turns out to be any kind of pattern at all, we need to get to the bottom of it and verify if incitements to violence are really being sent from sites like this one to corporate mouth-pieces like this guy.
