4PM, EST.

It was a shot segment. Blitzer will the rest of the interview later.

Blitzer asked him if the wanted to be president, and he said, of course he did--that's why he ran in 2004. Kerry said he would make his decision after the mid-terms, and it would not matter whether Hillary Clinton ran or not--in response to a direction Hillary question from Blitzer.

2. Kerry said, in a short snippet that
Blitzer played just now (4:31), that he respectfully disagreed with John Murtha. Said he laid out his own plan for withdrawal.

3. I was with Murtha until he said to deploy the troops outside of Iraq and

if terrorism returned, redeploy them. Huh?

This makes little sense as Iraq is near, if not already, in a state of civil war and has become become a central training ground for terrorists--something it was not before we invaded and occupied the country.

Iraq will never be stable as long as we are there as occupiers. That is the bottom line.

I cannot see what we can do to make Iraq a success militarily. The solution is political, and must be made by the Iraqis themselves.

4. I wish Murtha were on the same page as the Senate plan, but
I respect his courage and honesty in changing his position and calling for withdrawal in 6 months, which he evidently believes fervently is the best course. However I also wonder about the keeping troops nearby thing.
