70 congressional districts where GOP running unopposed (2006)
DUers: Please crosspost to your state's forum if it's on the below list! Thanks :hi:
==================================================================

From PDAmerica e-list mail:

If You're Still Asking, "What Can I Do?"
By Rita A. Weinstein of WA

Can you believe it? The following is a list of 70 congressional districts where Republicans are running unopposed.

It's possible that in some of these districts, Democrats have stood up as candidates since the list was created, but this is what PDA is all about. Where Republicans are unopposed, democracy is critically endangered. If you live in one of these districts, you, too, can be an American hero. You owe it to yourself and to our nation's future either to become a candidate or to help identify someone willing to run. If a Democrat has declared their candidacy since this list was created, now is the time find out who your candidate is and acquaint that person with your PDA chapter.

Want to take our country back? This is how we do it. This is where it starts. If you're not sure which district is yours, you can find out at http://capwiz.com/pdamerica/dbq/officials/

I was hoping that I just hadn't heard the new about someone running in OH-12, but nope. This is the east side of Columbus, so if you know anyone, push them to run. I can't vote for Tiberi. :(

44. Why don't you run?
Even if you lose, who cares? Just put your name on the ballot. With as crooked as our elections are, they may screw up and accidentally make you a congressperson.

8. I haven't seen a Dem run against John Peterson in years
The guy is a lock in the PA 5th, and has been since the 80's.

Typical conservo-nut, but the camo-baseball-cap-Carhardt crew thinks Dems want to take away their hunting, and there are plenty of nutty religiosos to go around, so there you have it. It would be a waste of money to run against him. The guy's in til he dies.

16. I was thinking the same thing.
Dave Weldon routinely takes FL15 with over 60% of the vote. The man hardly spends a dime on campaigning anymore but he sure rakes in the contributions.

20. A good Democrat should run against him using the theme
of protecting the environment and preserving it for sportsmen. His district includes the Allegheny National Forest.

I called his office last week to protest the "mining rights" bill that would sell national parks and forests for basically pennies to anyone who holds mining rights there. Can you imagine mining in the Alleghny National Forest? That's despicable.

The area he represents is also very economically disadvantaged. It would be wonderful if Dems in PA could find someone to run against Peterson.

But if they are running unopposed its probably because they are in a heavily republican area. BUT with the winds going our way its possible we could take one or two of these :)

15. I agree, but I bet we can take more than that.
Or I should say I think the Republicans will lose more than that. This would be an awesome time for independents to run in heavily Republican districts. They could get the disaffected vote from those pissed off Republicans who can't bring themselves to vote Democrat. I think we're going to get an Independent on our County Commission because of this type of thinking.

43. People are ticked, that will reduced votes for GOP
Some won't vote at all rather than vote dem when they can't stand to vote for their own party. Anger will bring in new voters who want to change the way things are. Additionally every so often some republicans get caught breaking laws and wouldn't it suck if there wasn't a dem or at least an indy running against them to take the seat! Just look at this GOP Scandel Scorecard for an example of what the culture of life party gets up to:

But my husband would divorce me. He is not prepared to be a single father to three small boys and that's exactly what it would entail. I have heard rumblings that a Democrat is going to declare in January but that's cutting it awful close for my taste.

make politics local again. the national parties cannot manage if each and every one of the contested seats are challenged (even if they are "guaranteed" for the incumbent). it drains resources, if not money (which is in great supply), then people.

Brownback has the full support of Jesus land in Kansas and Roberts has all those big corporate western Kansas farmers that want their farming welfare checks to keep rolling in--of course all the while decrying what a waste and fraud the welfare system is in the US.

40. I wrote some angry letters to our local Dems in 2004.
I saw the same thing on the 2004 ballot here in North Ga. There was opposition in the Pres and Senate races, but EVERY other position on the ballot was unopposed!!!! I couldn't believe it! I can only guess that this is such a heavily entrenched Pub area, any potential candidates think they'd just be wasting money to try.

41. That's usually it. Not many people willing to put money into what
they consider a certain loss. If we don't get someone declaring pretty close to filing deadline I may convince my husband to at least let me file to be on the ballot and then just not engage in much in the way of campaigning. Solves the single fatherhood problem. Hopefully someone will step forward though.

46. NY-13 is inaccurate. NY progressives
worked hard to beat Fosell in NY-13. There are three possible challengers, one of them will step up. It's just not clear yet which one. Fosella will go down this year!

http://www.dcpoliticalreport.com/NY.htm
possible Democratic Challengers:
St. AM Michael J. Cusick (D), city Councilman Michael E. McMahon (D), attorney John Minardo (D)

SO, i wonder how many other seats are listed inaccurately???

50. There's still time.
I'd particularly like to see the KS 4th district go back into Dem hands. The last Dem there was Dan Glickman. If I know my friends in Wichita, KS they'll have something cooking. The current Representative, Todd Tiahrt, is a religious looney, a real nutter and doesn't deserve to represent KS's most Dem district. Between ChimpCo and the KS Board of Education and with Kathleen Sebelius in the State House, this could be a time to put up a challenge.

who cares whether or not Kerry runs again? The midterm elections should be the center of attention for the DNC, DU, DLC, and any Democrat when speaking to the media! Republicans didn't leave this many Democratic seats unchallenged..not even in 1992!

any third party can push a contender for President, but what makes our party different?
