Bush's fatwa to China: "The people want to worship without state control"
Trying to strengthen America's influence in Asia in the face of China's rising economy and military might, Bush said China's determination to strengthen its economy must be accompanied by more freedoms for its people.

"As China reforms its economy," the president said, "its leaders are finding that once the door to freedom is opened even a crack, it cannot be closed. As the people of China grow in prosperity, their demands for political freedom will grow as well."

Bush said that Chinese President Hu Jintao had explained that his vision of "peaceful development" would make the Chinese people more prosperous.

"I have pointed out that the people of China want more freedom to express themselves ... to worship without state control ... and to print Bibles and other sacred texts without state control."

China has all the cards. And China is a fascist state. * saying this to Chinese officials has got to be like stroking a cat's fur in the wrong direction.

Does he have a death-wish?

15. So Clinton's way is better?
Opening economies does lead to the opening of ideas which does lead to a peaceful democratic transformation??? Is that what Bush is saying??

Yeah, I know it's all a corporatist slave labor mess, but still. It is ironic that Bush is singing the praises of a foreign policy Clinton implemented.
