Clinton Family Visits Jordan: Significant coverage by NY Times
Edited on Mon Nov-14-05 06:12 AM by Divernan
This article in the Times SHOULD be in the Latest Breaking News posts, but I can't do that, because someone earlier posted a very shallow story from some Indiana daily - think it was Ft. Wayne. That thread sank with 16 replies, but according to the rules, I would have to add the NYT link to that dead thread if I wanted Latest Breaking News status. The NYT story reflects how a true diplomat can generate so much good will for his country. It reminds us of what a great President Clinton was and how beloved he was and is by people in other countries.

So here's the link to today's NYT excellent coverage of this story.

www.nytimes.com/2005/11/14/nyregion/14hillary.html?th

(on edit: I always have a problem fitting the whole NYT link into the space of 1 line for DU. If anyone can provide an easier link to the article, you have my thanks. )

President, Senator and Chelsea Clinton paid an unannounced visit on Sunday to Amman, Jordan, to the hotel/bomb sight, the Jordan Hospital and Medical Center and the King and Queen of Jordan to express their sympathies. At one point, the hotel's general manager asked President Clinton if he would pose for a photo with the managerial staff, and Clinton agreed but called all of the staff in for the picture. You remember what those pictures looked like - Clinton in a sea of smiling people reaching out to touch him - NOT BEHIND A PHALANX OFSECRET SERVICE guards, with only carefully screened people allowed anywhere in his vicinity.

The hotel's general manager said:
"Their trip has done so much. It's uplifting. . .It has done so
much for morale, not just for us at the hotel, BUT FOR THE
COUNTRY." (my emphasis added).

Great quote from President Clinton:
"You have a king who brought in the leaders of all the major
historically recognized schools of Muslim thought and they
all talked about how they read the Koran, how the people
thought about the rules of life and how people live their
daily lives. And every single one of them, all these
academics and scholars and religious people who came
here said OUR RELIGION DOES NOT SANCTION
TERROR." (my emphasis added).

1. I saw him walking through the rubble of the bombed hotel
with Hillary last night on CNN. He turned to speak to the camera and it was so nice to see a President who actually cared. Damn, I miss those days:cry:

2. Ah, what a breath of fresh air
I'm disappointed that I haven't seen any video of Chelsea. Are they trying to keep her out of the limelight? Don't know if she went to Israel with her mom and dad, just read that she was in Jordan with them.
I'm sure missin' those great Clinton Whitehouse years.

3. Why do people here even ASK what she's done to signal she's running?
This is a pretty significant sign.

4. Yep - and I'll be working in the primaries to stop her.
Because, well, I want to win in 2008 and she won't flip not one - NOT ONE - red state in a general election.
