I hope he does not mind my sharing. It is about DFA Chairman Jim Dean's trip to Asheville, NC before the election. Thanks to him for sharing.

Jim Dean, Chair of Democracy for America, visited Asheville earlier this week to raise support for the candidates they endorsed: Robin Cape, Holly Jones and Bryan Freeborn.

The early endorsements and money sent to the progressive community via DFA has made all the difference in the world, especially to Bryan Freeborn, who started his campaign with almost nothing. It now looks like Bryan has a darn good shot at winning a seat on the City Council.

Dean participated in a Democratic party Unity Breakfast fund-raiser this morning, then attended a Meet & Greet brunch with the DFA endorsed candidates at The Westville Pub.

I didn't make it to the Unity Breakfast, but the Meet & Greet was a blast! Lu, one of the owners of The Westville Pub, did a fantastic job catering the event along with the West End Bakery and Over EZ. About 50 people showed up; There was music, food and lots of good-cheer to go around.

Jim Dean made a great impression on everyone. He's a good guy, attentive listener and extremely charismatic. Jim talked about the importance of local elections, and congratulated the candidates on the job they were doing.

To illustrate how important DFA HQ considers local races, Jim related an anecdote about how establishment-Democrats criticized his brother, Howard Dean, for campaigning on behalf of an individual running for head Librarian in a small, out-of-the-way community. Howard replied: "Well it's important that we get librarians elected who want people to read books, not burn them."
