4. No joke, for some reason I thought you were going to say
"Sorry, but Mark Warner has always reminded me of...
a Democrat who could actually be elected."

I was just talking to a Dem friend who always seems to be attracted to the most unelectable Dems out there. Sometimes I wonder if it so he can always say "hey, don't blame me, (name of elected Dem) wasn't my choice to be President/Governor/Senator/Mayor/etc."

5. as a Virginian the best thing I can say for Mark Warner is he would be an
improvement over John Warner, George Allen or Tom Davis in congress.... other than that he is far too lightweight and easily swayed to be president. Whoever comes after bush will have too much to straighten out, too much to fix.... I don't see Mark Warner as strong enough, serious enough or capable enough. I just don't. Surely we have someone better to put forth?

Oh - and he always reminded me of a walking "Ken" doll... and just about as "masculine" - NOT!

That's interesting. I don't know much about him, except he obviously was a popular governor, and I hadn't heard "easily swayed" before.

47. How is he easily swayed?`
He got a tax increase through a Republican legislature in a Republican state and is possibly the most popular governor here since the Civil War.

19. Perfect reply, lol. How Warner looks doesn't make my top 10 concerns
A dynamic speaker transcends appearances anyway, and I refuse to start judging my Presidential and VP candidates by this yardstick. It is obviously not a concern to the folks in Virginia, and if Warner secretly picks up the Porn vote without having to ask for it, it could make the difference if the erection is close.

11. It's about time someone addressed Warner's facial problem.
He has a really weird face. He can never be elected with that face.
How can I put this? Let's try this way. Imagine Warner was an up-and-coming Republican rather than a Democrat. With that face of his, what would a lot of us on DU be saying right now? Hmmm??
I tend not to like that kind of can we say, pink-baiting, and I'm certain that Warner is happily married and a 100% red-blooded American. But this is about physiognomy, not personality.

The man suffers from a severe case of gayface. Please don't shoot the messenger! :hide:

13. No, I'm not saying he's got gayface because he's semi-attractive -
Edited on Sun Nov-13-05 10:14 PM by the_spectator
I guess there's just something about his face, especially the lower half of it. He certainly doesn't have a weak jaw, but he does look rather slack-jawed and his mouth is too sloppy-looking. Maybe it's "yokel-face" really, and I really DON'T think that Warner is gay, but here in NY, I don't see too many yokels, and that face of his just strikes me as gay-looking. I'm sorry to be a pundit of the superficial (again) when it comes to presidential candidates, but this stuff matters!

25. So to summarize....
DU considers Mark Warner to be an easily swayed lightweight slack-jawed gayface doofus who probably sidelights as an adult movie actor. And probably no good at that, either.

He's still my top choice for our nomination, so I guess I'm fairly forgiving.

34. Very true
I didn't think of that. Gruesome to even imagine where that Bush summation would meander.

That's why I flop between the Lounge and the hard core forums, so the spirit of good fun at least threatens to make the transfer with me once in a while.

Someone else can update my Warner summary, BTW. This thread is relatively young and I'm confident more apropos terms to follow.

41. Disappointing reply...
For one thing, this reply is rude. You don't know me well enough to claim how shallow I might or might not be.

As for one's looks in the political arena, sadly, this stuff does matter. Certainly it shouldn't matter if one's impression of one is that of an adult movie actor, but the visceral impact a potential presidential candidate has on Americans does matter. If you doubt this, then all I ask is to look back at the last two campaigns.

What things were said about Bush in contrast to Kerry? Remember them? How Bush was seen as a person one would like to have a beer with and how Kerry would be the type of person who would drive by someone with a flat tire. Remember these? Or how about the image of Kerry windsurfing.

Now, I certainly do not believe the bad about Kerry at all, but I am a strong Democrat and my vote is not one the Dems need to work very hard for.

But we do need to worry about the impressions our Dems do have on other potential Dem voters.

43. Your OP is rude.
There is absolutely nothing wrong or even unusual about how the candidate looks, I can't even begin to imagine what your point is in creating this thread. I think it's insufferable that you come into GDP and demand that others satisfy your need to be persuaded about someone's worth, simply because you don't like how they look. Sorry, I call it like I see it.

46. Where did I "demand"....
I never demanded others satisfied my need to be persuaded, I did request that someone offer things that make Warner an attractive candidate, but I never demanded.

Face it, personal appearances do matter in American politics and to me, Warner comes off as a sneaky, snake oil salesman, but as I said, I am open to be persuaded. But my further point is, if a loyal Democrat is turned off by a candidate, what does it say about what potential voters will feel come around Nov?

And people could go to a candidate's website and look at the political BS posted by a candidate, but I would like to know of things people actually like about this guy, rather than just looking at him and seeing a pretty face and hearing cheap music playing in the background.
