I will be disappointed if...
Barack Obama is not the VP candidate in 08'. I love this guy, and you couldn't find a greater voice for the Democratic party. I might be wrong, and it might be too early for an African American candidate, but he sure does make me happy to be a Democrat.

1. I don't think its too early for an African-American candidate..
and so far I love Obama. I just worry that it might be too early in his career to have gained enough experience on such matters as national security. 2012, definitely.

2. That's why I say VP candidate...
If the Dems could find a great Presidential candidate, we couldn't lose with having Barack as their running mate.

3. The only trouble there is that eventually during a campaign..
the Veep candidate is judged on Presidential criteria. It's a gamble.

5. I agree, it's a bit too early in his career.
State politics is tough, but National politics is absolutely brutal! The days are gone (if they ever even existed) of the BEST person winning! Although we all say we just want candidates to just tell the truth, everyone who does looses!

Obama needs to spend a bit more time in the Senate, finding out how things REALLY work, who you can sort of trust, who you never can trust, who has what connections, and making his own. That all takes time and experience.

7. I think your assessment is about right. I would hate to see him
put up for nomination too soon and not be taken seriously. Better to wait until he has the experience and then nominate him. I think he would be great for the Democratic party and for the country. I had never heard of him before the Democratic Convention and he just blew me away. I would be proud to support him as a candidate if he were to get the nomination.

4. I think that he would make a great VP and if the President
used him for important things like Clinton did Gore then he would gain the experience he needed for his own turn.

6. People voted for Dick Cheney twice...
I think it's safe to say Barack Obama is a very safe choice for VP.

8. He will be ready for VP by 2008.
As far as experience in the Senate, by 2008, he'll have 3 years under his belt.

Frankly, I would prefer him NOT to be in the Senate that long. Those senate votes can come back and bite you in the butt. Just ask Kerry.

Obama definitely has a bright future ahead of him, but I would like to see him finish a term before he goes foranything else.
