Victories in NJ and VA. We were all floating on air because this was the first major elections since Bush stole 2000. Then 2002 came along and :cry:

So rejoice for today because tomorrow we go back to work and even harder. Let's not let 2006 turn into another 2002!!!

2001, November, hmm...just after September 11, dude. Jersey is as blue as blue can be, we weren't electing Schundler, and Bush rode 9/11 to 2002 wins. No 9/11 this time, 2006 is gonna be as sweet as tonight.

But tomorrow we need to go back to work. I'm suspecting foul play in Ohio and that needs to be addressed. We need to fight for these leaks and especially the news about Lott saying it was repukes that did it. And we need to keep this momentum going through 2006. I swore after election night in 2001 we'd have full control of the house & senate; we ended up going backwards.

But it seems to me that we may have more of an edge this time around than in 2001. I know that we have to stay on top of things and take nothing for granted, but the political climate today is vastly different from that of 2001.

Remember, it wasn't blue across the board. I'm devestated about what is happening in Ohio and personally I think someone needs to do something about those voting machines. I'm still worried about California and hoping that the gropenator goes down in defeat.

We must rejoice and then funnel that rejoicement into hard work for 2006

the momentum. Virginia decided to stay blue, which is telling - and didn't I hear that Kaine is against the death penalty? That's significant. Don't worry - we won't rest on our laurels. I plan on joining the campaign to beat Santorum.

11. There is a major difference

Warner was the frontrunner and expected to cruise in 2001. He had a 10 point lead in some polls. Kaine was down by roughly that margin this summer and was not considered anything close to Warner in terms of caliber of candidate. Proteges seldom are. Plus Virginia is potentially much more significant and close in 2008 than 2004. We needed to retain this governorship.

I'm really happy for the wins, but in all honesty, NJ should never have been a nail biter and Warner has effectively managed VA, so this shouldn't be too much of a surprise as well.

But it shows that VAians are not stupid and that when things are going well, you keep the same policies at work. Hopefully Kaine will be as good a governor as Warner.
