1. Good Freakin' Question!
I ask myself that same question.

And I hope we're not asking the same about New Jersey, Virginia, and California tomorrow!

2. You know, I have a feeling it will only be New York.
-- And I'm a New Yorker.

And the curious thing is, I'll be honest. I wasn't going to vote for Bloomberg anyway, but I'll have to make myself pull the lever for Fernando Ferrer, because I haven't found him particularly to be a compelling candidate. Is that my fault? Probably.

3. Not your fault!
I have an article posted on my wall from the The New York Magazine circa 2004 with Congressman Anthony Weiner saying he is going after bloomberg!

What happened to Weiner..do you have any clue?

10. weiner was the democratic runnerup in the primary
with ferrer being the winner.

in order to not put the party through another divisive campaign that would only turn off voters, he got behind ferrer.

he did make a few appearances with ferrer, as did most, if not all of the other democratic primary candidates.

i, too, will halfheartedly pull the lever for ferrer.

but i will NOT pull any lever with an R behind the candidate's name. no matter how good they are (as some say bloomberg is), they are all enablers of bush.

9. I feel bad
for Freddy Ferrer; he is a good guy, a great Democrat and Bill Clinton endorsed him. Problem is with the Jewish vote; even the far left Jewish people love Bloomberg.

4. Being a recent and temporary transplant to this state...
I've found myself wondering the exact same thing. I would really love it if somebody would clue me in.

5. IMO, the Democrats have run tired hacks for mayor for years now..
the recent three candidates have rotated thru various city offices for an eternity it seems. They don't do much to attract or energize voters especially new ones.In Giuliani's second term, they ran the then Manhattan Borough president, Ruth Messinger. She almost lost the primary to the Reverend Al, who had not yet achieved his rise to a pseudo elder statesman.Ferrer suffers from Bloomberg's unlimited spending of course, but even so, he's kind of underwhelming.

At least in my lifetime, incumbent mayors seem to get re-elected in NYC, barring some calamity. His biggest negative obviously is his support for Bush, but that really doesn't get highlighted in day to day city business. It was disgusting that we had the Republican convention here, but I think many New Yorkers did not view that as a make or break event in Bloomberg's mayoralty. Mayors who got replaced had things occuring during their terms like a near city bankruptcy, endless municipal workers strikes, high crime rates & a small riot. Bloomberg's governance negatives are more insidious and the Democrats did not spend much time during his first term pointing them out.

Just my $.05.

7. Bloomberg was a DEM
before he ran for mayor the first time. The DEM party would not support his candidacy so he switched parties. So for the most part Bloomberg is a DEM in Repug clothing.

Second, this is the 2nd or 3rd time Ferrer has run and most DEMS consider him to be an idiot. I don't know what's going on with the DEM party in NYC but they need to get their act together and find a candidate that people might actually vote for.

In the meantime, Bloomberg has been a fairly decent mayor, so he continues to have the support of the majority of voters.
