It is a toy armadillo. Barney likes to chase armadillos down on the "ranch" in Crawford.

2. Isn't that a Jerry Jeff Walker song?

I don't think I ever knew the title but I played the tape and others a million times, years ago when I had a VW with a tapeplayer. Used to know all the words to all the songs, need to dig out those tapes again.

I used to go to a little place in Denver where the band would play that song among others, like Johnny B. Goode.
