Bush to campaign for Kilgore Monday; latest poll numbers
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9928546 /

<snip>

Jerry Kilgore will get some big name support on Monday. President Bush is expected to be in town campaigning for Kilgore in their first public campaign appearance together in Richmond. The White House confirms Bush will appear briefly with Kilgore at Richmond International Airport Monday evening.

Kilgore told The Associated Press in Charlottesville Friday that the president made the offer to come to Virginia. Kilgore added he thinks “Virginia has benefited from his presidency.”

With Election Day on Tuesday, the two leading candidates for governor are criss-crossing the state as a new poll out Friday shows Republican Jerry Kilgore and Democrat Tim Kaine in a virtual dead heat.

The Mason-Dixon poll puts Kaine at 45 percent and Kilgore at 44 percent in a survey of 625 registered voters conducted this week. Thos results are within the poll’s margin of error plus-or-minus four-percentage-points. Independent Russ Potts was at four percent, while seven percent of those responding were uncommitted.

<snip>

Maybe Bush showing up on Monday, with all of his problems, will actually backfire on Kilgore. Let us hope so!

1. Dog, I hope so.
I live in VA and I can't stand the idea of Kilgore being elected.

The commercial for his Lt. Governor uses the word 'liberal' as though it was treacherous.

I'd like to see a poll of how Shrub's ratings are in VA.

2. what will they really say to each other?
Kilgore: Mr President I thought I told you to stay away from me!

Bush: We have made a lot of progress here in Virginia and as soon as you have voted on your new constitution we will with draw our troops

Kilgore: cut the cameras please.

3. I hope there are massive anti-Bush protests and it hurts Kilgore.
I'm in GA and have not kept up with your state's politics very much.
Good luck. I hope the Democratic candidate wins.

6. Hopefully, Kaine will pull through. Kilgore is an asshat.
Mark Warner, in my opinion, did a great job cleaning up the big mess Gov. Gilmore (R) left us when he left office. If Kilgore gets elected, I'm afraid VA will be taking many steps backward.

I would assume that an endorsement by Chimpie might bring about the same results.

8. That's actually bad news
I was hoping Kilgore would be stupid enough to steer Bush away.

It's lousy handicapping to distance yourself from the party leader, no matter what his current approval numbers are, especially in a state that's consistently on his side in partisan terms. Like Clinton has always emphasized, it's better to be wrong and strong...

Kilgore looks and speaks like a wimp. Keeping Bush away would merely have reinforced that impression. I doubt he figured this out. Someone in his staff must have more brains than I credited them for recently.
