Dean fundraising
http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/national/AP-Democrats-Money.html

<snip>

Despite Dean's third-place finish in Iowa and second-place showing in New Hampshire this month, small-dollar donors have continued giving, helping Dean raise more than $100,000 on Wednesday and more than $1.8 million in the past week, Steve Grossman said.

<snip>

Campaign spokesman Jay Carson said Dean raised more than $4 million this month and has plenty of money to compete in next month's primaries.

While most others have concentrated their resources on the first states to vote -- Iowa, New Hampshire and Feb. 3 battlegrounds such as South Carolina -- Dean looked beyond them early on and established extensive grass-roots operations around the country.

The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees political action committee has spent more than $1.6 million on get-out-the-vote drives and ads promoting Dean independent of his campaign.

PAC director Ricky Feller said he has planned as far ahead as Wisconsin's Feb. 17 primary, and isn't considering pulling the plug....``It hasn't come to that point yet and I don't see it on the horizon,'' Feller said. ``I think this thing is still wide open.''

End article....

So, the point is, once again, the reality of the situation is somewhere between joy and Elysian Fields in Dean-ville, and the doom, gloom, and rumors of graft and theft so gleefully flung about by detractors.

relax people.

1. Hmmmm...
No responses?

No flames?

No laughter or gloating?

Why? Is realistic optimism not any fun for the flame-festers?

Here is realistic optimism...

Rumors of Dean's demise are over-eager, over-inflated balogna.

There is turmoil, there is disappointment, and there is rough water ahead - no doubt about it.

But there is also hope, there is also 4 million raised this month and 1.8 million raised this week, there is also an existing organization, union support, and several primaries ahead.

ALSO, there is a decent field of decent candidates, all of whom are busy stealing lines from each other, learning from each others' stumbles, mistakes, strategies, and gaffes.

So, no matter what happens, there is realistic optimism.

Don't believe the polls, don't buy into the hype, don't play the media games and report breathlessly every stupid rumor or lame headline...

Keep your heads down, work for your candidate, pull for your guy, write letters, donate, register people to vote, work on signs, gather info.

Remain calm.

3. It is kinda funny how few
responses there are to this thread...such a hot topic, right?

Facts should be important, right?

Spin should be deconstructed, and all sides of issues examined, right?

Especially in the light of the fact that the media is so terribly biased to begin with, right?

Waiting....

4. I am sending more money
I have increased my rate of donation to the campaign. As long as there is a possibility, I will continue to donate.

5. Indeed...
That's the point.

The WHOLE point...

If we stick with Dean, he will soldier on.

When we leave Dean, then he will quit.

I am giving Dean until after Wisconsin.

If he has not shown any motion or spark by then, then I will stop.

7. Good plan, I agree
One problem I think is that since much of Dean's support is grass rooted it comes from people who are not used to how the political wars are fought. As a result they panic and get distraught with every problem that arises. If you believe in someone you have to realize that though there may be large bumps in the road he has the ability to straighten out and drive straight. I will also give Dean that chance until Wisconson.

9. Count me in
Even though Kerry was chided for mortgaging his house to raise money, he managed to come back from the brink and win two states. Dean can do the same if we continue to support him, and hopefully he won't have to mortgage his house.

11. we need some facts
where did the money go?

If there were irregularities it is going to hit the Dean campaign hard. One of Dean's strengths is his fiscal conservatism. I thought it would play well with voters in the GE but it's a card he can't play if that much money got squandered so early in the game. I am waiting for everything to sort itself out.
