Arlen Specter didn't welcome Alito nor did he promise a speedy process
Watching Alito with Frist, Specter and other repubs during the news conference, I found it interesting and significant that Arlen Specter was the only one who didn't smile and welcome Alito and he was the only one to say there is a lot of material that needs to be reviewed about him (aka TAKES TIME).

Being that Specter is from PA, I am sure the Casey v Planned Parenthood case (requiring women to get husband's permission for an abortion) is seared into his brain...and I am certain he is well aware that Alito was in favor of women getting permission.

I'm liking Arlen more and more with every day that passes. I wish him well. Keep asking those questions Sen. Specter (and LOTS of them!!!)!

2. There may be more to it than that
Specter once lost a Supreme Court case when the court reversed the decision of the appeals court (which was in Specter's favor). In the decision they cited a dissent written by Alito.

So Specter may have a little personal animosity that will work against Alito.

4. I wouldn't put too much hope in Specter. He was pretty much emasculated
by the wing nuts to get his Judiciary Committee Chairmanship.

5. Is this another "nya nya" appointment (as Molly Ivins would say)?
Like making a veteranarian head of women's health issues at the FDA or hiring back Michael Brown to FEMA as a consultant to find out what went wrong in New Orleans?

Seems like a dig at Spector.
