Poll question: If Kerry Puts Away The Rest Of The Field Early, The Attacks On Him Will...
Continue on through the general election up until election night.

Continue for a few months, but subside for party unity.

Continue for a few weeks, but people will calm down.

Continue until DU pulls the plug on any negative candidate attacks.

1. How Sinister of You. "Pull the Plug"?
Almost too clever of you, Magic Rat. I like how you have introduced the possibility of silencing people here in your poll.

Sort of a "Patriot Act" of our own to support the lawmaker who participated in giving us the Patriot Act, huh?

I've not heard anyone here even remotely suggest such a thing, Magic Rat. But here you are raising it up on the flag pole to see who would salute.

Well, I congratulate you for being the first to drop the hint. How democratic of you.

3. I am fairly sure that the
DU admin has said that no attacks will be allowed, once the nominee is chosen. I do not disagree with that, BTW.

I have never attacked Kerry; I just do not think he can beat bush. That is not an attack, in my book.

5. His Poll Mentions Nothing About the Nomination.
He knows.

7. I was assuming that he'd run up all the delegates and mathematically
eliminate the other candidates. So I was meaning from the point at which the process becomes moot and the when the nomination is all but assured.

12. Well, If & When Kerry Has 50.1% of All Possible Delegates
Edited on Wed Jan-28-04 07:53 PM by David Zephyr
which will not happen until after New York (where's he's not even on a lot of the ballots, by the way) and California vote, then if you consider that "early" then you've explained yourself adequately even though I don't think that's "early".

Silence falls over the DU as early as next Tuesday night. Stick a fork in it, all you who question John Kerry's coronation.

6. by DUers
I'm wondering if DU is gonna be a place where we all get together and try to work on getting Kerry the victory (SHOULD HE BE THE NOMINEE) in November or whether this is going to be a place where people bitch and moan about how Clark or Dean or Edwards would have done a better job and how it's all hopeless and that we're gonna lose.

19. Thanks for clarifying. I just chose Option 4.
As for me, I've said it before and I'll say it again. I've supported Howard Dean, but if he loses the nomination, I'm not gonna pout, go the sidelines, stay home or vote third-party. My mantra still is: Anybody But Bush/Cheney.

9. I thought this was a site for Democrats
So I wouldn't be surprised if DU halted negative attacks on Kerry should he wrap up the nomination.

I think you can join FreeRepublic if you are looking to slam the Democratic candidate.

17. The rules are pretty clear
Negative attacks are an unavoidable part of any political campaign, and therefore they are permitted against any Democratic presidential candidate. However, once the Democratic party officially nominates its candidate for president, then the time for fighting is over and the negative attacks against candidates must stop. The administrators of this website do not wish for our message board to be used as a platform to attack and tear down the only progressive on the planet with any hope of defeating George W. Bush. Constructive criticism and even outright disappointment with the candidate may be expressed, but partisan negative attacks will not be welcome. If you wish to contribute to the defeat of the Democratic candidate for president, then you are welcome to use someone else's bandwidth on some other website. As the election season draws closer, we may expand this rule to include Democratic candidates for other political offices.

I guess the only question is if Kerry had enough delegates to clinch, would that be enough, or let the attacks continue till the convention.

20. Yep. Once the nominee is obvious, negatives do absolutely
nothing constructive. Once we have (or are stuck with, depending upon opinion) our nominee, attacks only help the KKKRove machine. I agree, they should not be allowed.

18. Actually beyond the general election.
He will be vilified even after he is dead, for losing the most important presidential election since 1932.

Unless, of course, he wins. Then we'll all love & revere him.

26. And most accusations against Kerry are TRUE!
He can't defend himself, he belongs in prison with some of the crimes he's committed. He will only bring disaster to the Party and America if he's nominated.
