I betcha CNN's play of the week is Miers withdrawal, brilliant for bush
and I'm saying they will try to spin this in a super positive light for bush.

You ever notice how biased they are (I think the analyst is Bill Schnieder, comes on during Wolf's show and does his political play of the week)?? The democrats have a great week, or republicans shoot themselves in the foot, and he'll talk about Iraqi politics or some nonsense. He can never admit the dems have done anything good.

1. She chose this time to withdraw, not bush.
It makes him look weak, which puts him in an even worse position as far as impending indictments. Karl is in a heap of trouble and probably can't think straight to advise bush as to the next selection.

Maybe Harriet is mad that bush painted her into this corner. He basically ruined her reputation.

3. do you really think it was her decision? Of course they "said" she
told Bush last night but that is just spin as if it was a personal decision out of BushCo's hands.

The nomination of Miers was not a diversion, it was not planned "to tail. A lot of conservatives lost a lot of confidence in him over this and American is seeing is weakness right now.

4. Oh comeon, you know she had nothing to do with the
withdrawal, don't you?? You really think she decided on her own to forgo the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and dream job for every lawyer in America????

Oh, please.

10. I absolutely do believe she made the decision.

She was circling the drain in a major way, she was becoming the butt of too many jokes regarding her qualifications. Also her unsavory past vis-a-vis special favors and ignoring certain rules was being uncovered. The more bush dug in his heels, the worse it got for Harriet.

Yes, I think she withdrew on her own, trying to save what little face she had left.

edit to add: It became increasingly clear to her that she was in way over her head. Even if she made it to the bench, the other judges would have treated her in a condescending manner, knowing that her singular qualification was as bush's "hack crony."

7. More likely the Iraq Constitution Vote
I know the vote didn't happen this week, but it became offical this week. CNN will then talk about how this is a major coup for Bush.

If that didn't happen, it might well have been the Miers withdrawal - which now lets Bush pick a RW judge. (and he will push for swift confimations as O'Connor wanted to leave a long time ago.)

I would hope nothing in the indictments should even remotely be considered "political play of the week"

Other than that what should be the political play of the week - I honestly don't see one. (The only remotely possible play of the week I can think of on the Democratic side is unlikely - that would be - as seen from the future retrospectively, if the Democrats united behind some version of John Kerry's Iraq plan and sold the logic behind it and it became (for the Iraq war) the Democratic plan to counter what Bush actually did in the 2006 mid year elections and it (along with other plans from other people) gained us seats.

9. This was a devastating personal blow for him.
I think he really did want his little crony on the court.
