My quick reaction is don't rain on our parade.

First because there should be a chilling effect on this kind of leak. (And Tenet asked the AG for it).

Second we finally have got something on them, fingers crossed.

This investigation is not a good thing because it could be considered revenge. It is a good thing because these people are running the nation into the ground and need to be slowed down and/or stopped.

Ok, the article:

"Illiberal Prosecution
Why Democrats should take no comfort in the Plame case.
By Jacob Weisberg

Posted Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2005, at 11:39 AM PT

As Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald mulls possible charges in the Valerie Plame investigation, the gloating in liberal enclaves like Manhattan, Oberlin, and Arianna's dining room has swelled to a roar. Opponents of the Bush administration are anticipating vindication on various fronts—justice for their nemesis Karl Rove, repudiation of George W. Bush's dishonest case for the Iraq war, a comeuppance for Chalabi-loving reporter Judith Miller of the New York Times, and even some payback for the excesses of independent counsels during the Clinton years.

Hold the schadenfreude, blue-staters. Rooting for Rove's indictment in this case isn't just unseemly, it's unthinking and ultimately self-destructive. Anyone who cares about civil liberties, freedom of information, or even just fair play should have been skeptical about Fitzgerald's investigation from the start. Claiming a few conservative scalps might be satisfying, but they'll come at a cost to principles liberals hold dear: the press's right to find out, the government's ability to disclose, and the public's right to know..."

3. Weisberg
Weisberg's an asshole and a coward. He's a great example of the self-hating "liberal," or so he likes to call himself. He spent all of 2000 attacking Gore and not only elevating Bush, but buying that centrist Republican bullshit. Weisberg is like most of Slate's political writers -- more interested in trying to be clever than actually believing in anything.

5. You know, that really fits how the article read to me.
It seemed to be off the wall, and trying to be clever.

Blech.

Thanks.

18. That's why I've never read Slate
unless someone links to it. Its always been full of "terminally hip" idiots who think its cool to pretend to be a Dem while cozying up to R's. Boooorring.

4. Doesn't understand the rule of law, does he?
And there is no way that Fitzgerald has an ax to grind. Funny that this is coming out before we even know what the indictments are about and what crimes have been committed.

I smell a mole... or mole-asses.

8. I love stories like this!
I say that every time one of these pops up, add the author to the list of people who need to be investigated for paid shilling. Like Armstrong Williams said, he wasn't the only one out there.

9. he's living in a fool's paranoid ...
outing a CIA agent is a federal crime ... it might even be treason which could be punishable by death ... reporters and their million dollar an hour lawyers with mega-media corporations standing behind them can take care of themselves ... there's no evidence that freedom of the press has taken a hit in this case ...

but all that is crap ...

Mr. Weisberg appears to be so concerned about freedom of the press that he forgets about the intimidation of the CIA ... we were warned about mushroom clouds over NY ... we were threatened with dirty bombs and with other WMD ... anthrax scares traced back to Iraq ... crazed terrorists would be pouring over our borders if we didn't invade Iraq ... and the whole damned pack of lies was tied to 9/11 ... this whole Plame business has resulted in the deaths of 2000 Americans, the maiming of another 10 to 20 thousand, and tens of thousands of dead Iraqis ... i hope bush and his cronies hang for their crimes ... i wonder if C-Span would cover it ...

That's what Democrats should be celebrating when bush and his pack of felons are perp walked out of Washington ... hallelujah !!!!

10. Let's separate intellectualizers from liberals
This guy is more interested in his opinion than reality. The White House put an entire CIA operation at risk and used the press to do it. That's propaganda and fascism, plain and simple. If some of these intellectualizers had been skeptical about the information coming from these Bush propagandists, maybe we wouldn't be in the messes we're in.

11. "You need a low opinion of people in the White House"
He writes --
"You need a pretty low opinion of people in the White House to imagine they would knowingly foster the possible assassination of CIA assets in other countries for the sake of retaliation against someone who wrote an op-ed they didn't like in the New York Times."

Well, yes, I guess you do.
Now why would I possibly have a low opinion of people in the White House?

hmmmmm.

This story has been mostly pushed by political forums and bloggers, who have a tendency to hyperfocus on things that are not really important or blow something way out of proportion while ignoring truly important stories like Delphi's bankruptcy or the attempted breaking up of New Orleans' public school system.

I have NEVER believed anything would come of this, and ten cents says I am right.

I'd love to be wrong, but I doubt I am.

Gee, if we knew all the names of all the undercover agents, ummmm, they wouldn't be undercover and couldn't do their freaking jobs anymore. Like Plame, who can't find WMDs anymore. And all her dead contacts, who are ummmm DEAD! The government made her NOC so, no, they have no right to disclose her identity.

I hate that they let freaking morans like this spew nonsense. Liberal my ass. He'd give imbeciles a bad name. What is Slate doing giving space to a dipshit like him? :dunce:
