Can centrist win all by themselves? (read on questions)
Will Liberals realize what they are doing if they leave the party?

Sam Seder discussing this on Majority Report

Mike Malloy has said many a times, I am no longer a Dem, will support worthy ones, but no longer a dem

Hartman saying the same

Should a new party be formed?

I remember saying that these were the questions. The answers will depend on who you are...

Here is the point folks, welcome to the battle for the soul of the Democratic party. We are at a cross roads, and the questions are... should we go on the road chosen further to the right (which in my view leads to irrelevancy and the death of the party), or take the fork, which is a return to our populists roots (at least going back to 1900 or so)

If we decide to take the fork, I believe it will be better for the country in the long run, but it will be painful Those who control the avenues of power, the party machine, will fight us tooth and nail, as we see here

We also need to talk to the American People again, about Health Care, Workers Rights, the Union movement, national security, the fact that republican run wars go badly, and democrats can run wars. There are many issues, but we need to decide what the party is going to look like... and what we are seeing is people fighting this... for they believe in the corporatist structure. I keep citing history, we have been here before, the gilded age... and we shook it. That time around it TOOK the formation of the Populist Party... the ball is in many ways in the court of the DLC, who has indeed lost far more than won... if they decide they don't want to play well with each other... so be it... the consequences will be severe.

But as I said, the battle is now joined... and it will not be pretty.

1. It's dumb to talk about a 3rd party until the laws can be changed.
All the election laws are set up to eliminate an competition to the two party system. You may not like it, but that's the way it is now.

We have to admit both parties have many factions. The Dems do too! Many members of the Pub party hate it that the RW has managed to take control...for now.

I think we can work harder to get the majority back and try to change the laws, or abandon the Dem party, start a new 3rd party or join an existing one....and lose!!!!

Listen to Howard Dean. He's really working for all of us. The best bet is to help HIM make the necessary changes to the Party!

3. I know I threw it in at one point to get the damn discussion

going,

The two parties will fight the changes needed to bring that forth...

But at least got the discussion going, and now the battle if fully engaged.

the discussion NEEDED to happen well before the '06 cycle, if you ask me.

;-)

That said, don't fully discount what a third party can do to change the direction of a major party. It has happened more often than not. No they don't win, but they are the engines of change... and who knows? Maybe they will surprise us and be the next GOP...

2. I want my party back.

I, too, am totally pissed-off about this. I will not let a conservative cabal take over my party like what happened to the Republicans. If they want to come to the table, play fair, and contribute their ideas, they are more than welcome to do so. But I will no longer stomach the utter bullshit which the DLC PAC, a group of righteous ideological thugs, is attempting to do to my party.

Now, those are strong words. They are indeed strong words in response to many too many strong words like "extremist", "Reality Based Community", and other code words for "liberals are not welcome in the Democratic party".

I don't have to stand for this kind of treatment from people in my own party. The DLC PAC people are acting like Rovian thugs.

I want to know the truth. I want to know what is happening behind the scenes with Paul Hackett's senatorial bid. I want to know what the fuck is going on with a New-fucking-York Senator poking his nose into Ohio politics. Is it the intention of these thugs to turn the Democratic party into the same kind of dirty tricks, back-stabbing we've been fighting for five fucking years with the Repugs? I think this needs some good press coverage so that the nice patriotic people of this country can hear an explanation from the good Senator why he is messing around with the poltical future of a fellow Democrat--an Iraq war veteran, no less.

If power so fucking important to the DLC PAC that they have dirty deal and back stab people in their own party they do not deserve office anymore than the totally corrupt Repugs.

Just say no to appeasement, corruption, and division. Say No to the DLC PAC.

4. This is why I take the next step with the DLC PAC
I won't vote for a DLCer, period, end of discusion, not until they learn to play well with others and realize their way has not led anywhere.

5. Why don't we contact Paul Hackett? I'm sure he knows what's
going on. I will try and I think you should too!

There's so much dirty crap that goes on behind the scenes in politics on all sides, that's the best shot I can think of.

I want my party back too! I want all the Dems to take lessons from Howard Dean! Say what you mean and stick with it!

A third party is just not the way to go mow.
