A Response From Laura Ingraham
Edited on Wed Sep-28-05 08:59 PM by Steely_Dan
This is what I wrote to her:

Shame on you for your infantile jabs at Senator Byrd this morning. Here is a man who has served our country for decades. He deserves more respect from you. You may not like his politics...but do you need to resort to school yard tactics? More proof that the Republican party is mean spirited.

Her response:

Isn't meanspirited one word?

We make fun of ourselves as much as anyone else. Lighten up. I'm sure you don't condone all the Dem attacks on the Prez, right?

---
As it turns out "mean spirited" is NOT one word..but it can be hyphenated.
Their attack on Senator Byrd was pretty vicious...I felt I had to say something.

2. "Isn't meanspirited one word? "
For Republicans, yes. One word, one mind, one meanspirited heart.

They can dish it out, but they cannot take it.

5. True. When George Clooney mocked Charlton 'klanboy' Heston...
DAS reichving was all over him. This is why I HATE the right wing.

They are such hypocrits.

3. She says quite a bit. Read between the lines.
This is nothing but a big game to them. As they're out there churning up emotions and distracting us, they're picking our pockets.

8. It's a big game for power as well as our money. The important thing
Edited on Wed Sep-28-05 09:22 PM by calimary
here is that you gave a damn enough to write in and question her, and call to her attention that there IS another view, fortunately enough, since hers is completely wrong. And mean-spirited. Looks like she tried the nit-picking thing that Tim Russert tried against Aaron Broussard - for which Broussard did NOT let him get the last word, or get any word in at all that wasn't boldly and forthrightly challenged.

What's important here is that you actually took the time to write - and let her know that her words are not falling on 100% unquestioning ears. I think one of the big problems with people like her on wrong-wing radio is that she's spoiled. She and others exclusively of her ilk are used to having the playground all to themselves, with others either locked out or pushed off to the sides and corners. She, like the rest of them, is used to the dittohead treatment, either from listeners of like mind who call in or from like-minded or backwards-slanted interviewers who have them on their programs - interviewers who should be striving to remain impartial and don't. And if that's all she hears, it is easy and reasonable for people like het to make the next leap in the mind: assuming that their statements all that exists. If you never hear an opposing view, how do you even know there's an opposing view out there? If you never hear a good one from an informed liberal, what would you expect her to think? She NEEDS to hear from you. She's proving her statements unworthy, not "ditto'ed." And she needs to know that.

It's just as with the Saturday protests. Those who loudly huffed and puffed about how THEIRS was the majority view couldn't get it up to more than a few hundred in Washington DC. Seemed rawther clear and irrefutable that the real majority view was the one held by the participants of the OTHER rally - who numbered a few hundred THOUSAND. You tell me which is the majority view, 'eh? Do the math.

You just helped Little Miz Attitude to do the math, Steely_Dan. :yourock:

7. Hypocrite...
>We make fun of ourselves as much as anyone else. Lighten up.

Lighten up? They're the party of hurt feelings and being easily offended!

Just tell them to 'lighten up' when someone, ANYONE makes an otherwise applicable comparison of the modern right / neocons to Nazi Germany, then you'll see how much 'fun loving' they are...

Oooh! My feelings are hurt saying what I'm doing is like Hitler's Germany! How DARE you!

We should tell them to 'lighten up'!

9. You know something? That's a bunch of crap. limbaugh makes excuses
like that, too, "ho, ho, ho, I'm just enterTAINing... ho, ho, ho." BULLSHIT. He's manipulating public opinion and he knows it. So's she. That's bullshit aimed at head-tripping you, as though you're the fuddy-duddy and she was just having some fun. You could certainly compliment her on her rapacious wit, cleverly skewering george bush for having bags under his eyes that look like they're packed for another five weeks in Crawford - man you guys REALLY DO laugh at yourselves, too! The way you've been funnin' with tom delay - oh yeah! A laigh-riot, honey-bunch! You're a regular Joan Rivers.

13. One last thought about the Nazi thing... (Communists)
Just a follow up, but too late to edit...

For some reason, when the left refers to Nazi Germany when it refers to the right's tactics and order, etc OH NO! HOW can we SAY such a thing??

But they throw around communism and socialism all the time at us, and by my memory Communists have killed more people than the Nazis did, but we "politically correct" liberals don't seem so sensitive about it...

11. Her show is one long string of infantile jabs at the left
I heard her a couple of times when home sick. She is just one long string of personal attacks against everyone she disagrees and then sniggers at her own stupid jokes. :eyes:

She has decent bumper music, if I recall. That's about all I can say for her.

12. Making fun of themselves?
Well, I wouldn't know. I think I've got a pretty good sense of humor. I can usually grasp the comedic in every form from goofy to wryly sarcastic. I can definitely make fun of myself and the excesses of my fellow libs. But I can't honestly tell when those R/W pundits are trying to be funny or not. It's said that all humor has a kernel of cruelty to it. I can buy that. But I think that Ingraham and her ilk are bullies. The laughter they hear is the nervous laughter of the cowed and fearful. It's all mean and no funny.
