German Plane With Katrina Aid Turned Back

BERLIN - A German military plane carrying 15 tons of military rations for survivors of Hurricane Katrina was sent back by U.S. authorities, officials said Saturday.

The plane was turned away Thursday because it did not have the required authorization, a German government spokesman said.

The spokesman, speaking on customary condition of anonymity, declined to comment on a report in the German news magazine Der Spiegel that U.S. authorities refused the delivery on the grounds that the
NATO military rations could carry mad cow disease.

The spokesman said U.S. authorities had since given approval for future aid flights, but it was unclear whether the German military would try again to deliver the rations.

1. this should further endear us to the rest of the world
They'll just love it that the German government went to the expense of the meals plus the transportation and were turned away.

It will be a further mark on the chimp's record as an efficient, no-nonsense manager in a crisis.

6. "Spiegel online" writes that the Mad-Cow-Excuse given to our
officials was just somuch BS - the food in question are military rations which are PROVEN to be mad-cow-desease-free - AND in Afghanistan American soldiers regularly eat the German rations when they get together...
Spiegel said evidently the reason for refusing the food was that the Bushistas didn't want any more pictures of foreign help, seing this as embarrassing.

7. Let's see, we turned down aid from Cuba, Israel, and now Germany
Meanwhile rightwing radio is blaming local elected Democratic officials for the lack of aid to victims. Something does not compute!

8. Of course they were 'turned away.' They weren't "contracted" by Haliburton
first. Isn't that the 'drill?'

9. The good thing about this sort of crap
is that, even if they succeed in whitewashing things in this country and reanesthatize the sheep, at least the rest of the world knows what really happened, and they won't be brainwashed by our propoganda.

10. Also...
two planeloads of food, etc. from England are languishing at airfields in DC and Texas, according to today's London Times.

Mad cow disease was also the rationale in this case.

Why the concern? We have a madman with a madcow mother "in charge" of this cluster f**k.

Color me sad, angry and disgusted.
