Edited on Mon Aug-29-05 03:35 PM by Bush_Eats_Beef

"Cindy Sheehan, left, begins to cry as Anishinabi elder Dennis Banks of the American Indian Movement puts gold stars on her warrior shawls presented to her at Camp Casey 2 near President Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas, Monday, Aug. 29, 2005. Banks drove 1357 miles from northern Minnesota to present Sheehan with the Native American gift reserved for warriors. (AP Photo/LM Otero)"

Well deserved, absolutely...

But this man drove 1357 miles from northern Minnesota to present a Native American gift reserved for warriors?

Do honors COME in bigger sizes than that?

64. Here ya go...

Means Says He Understands Power Of Women

CAMP CASEY II — Russell Means’ appearance on the stage at Camp Casey II in Crawford yesterday was a surprise to many. For background on this famous Indian (who eschews the government term “Native American”), see brief additional biographical information at the end of this story.

Means, a long-time activist, arrived in Central Texas to support the efforts of Cindy Sheehan and her Iraq war protestors. He well understands the power of women. He spoke, both on stage and in a later interview with the Iconoclast, of the matriarchal society of the American Indian.

Motherhood in America has an inkling of the meaning of this, Means mused, but the Indians live it.

He explained that in a family, the mother is the only member who cannot be replaced. Women live longer than men, can stand more pain, have more endurance, he said. At about this point, Means introduced his wife, Pearl, and received a hug from Joan Baez, who was sitting on the floor of the stage with Cindy Sheehan, listening to Means’ remarks.

Means said that America has a patriarchal society where men rule alone and in fear of the unknown because they are alone. Matriarchy, he pointed out, is not fear-based. In a matriarchal society, each sex is celebrated for its strengths, and there is local control, male/female balance.

18. Cindy Deserves the Medal of Honor
Cindy's one-woman war for truth has forced the most powerful man on earth to hide under his bed when he's in town and to run to every other state in the union the rest of the time. Thanks to Cindy Bush's vacation has become a real "working" vacation -working on dodging her. She deserves a national day in her honor for what she's doing. Courage in the face of tyranny must be recognized.

I wish all of my fellow Americans who hate Cindy would just stop and think clearly for just a few minutes.

Think about what she is doing and why she is doing it.

I wish they would just put aside thier hatred for a few moments and REALLY listen to her speak and think about the courage she shows everyday. And how faced with a daily smear campaign from powerful people... Cindy just grows more eloquent every day.

She went from a normal everyday citizen to a trailblazer that will go down in the history books.

God Bless her. What a wonderful moment. She deserves it.

to inspire..and values to ponder..it would be native american. Very touching.

This is what religion is about - rituals that inspired and heal. No rich middleman between you and your totem - telling you how to feel and how to think. Cindy can plant that shall in her living room for her on into the end of her life..and get something out of it every day of her life.

48. It's not a religion, but a beautiful way of life. There are plenty of
Indians willing to share their teachings and traditions with others who are willing to learn. The 8th Anishnabi (aka Ojibwe, aka Chippewa) prophecy talks about red souls walking around in white bodies. Just avoid those who ask for money in exchange for the knowledge!

This is a great honor for Cindy. Being recognized like this from a native american tribe really shows the impact she is having. They are acknowledging her efforts to end a war based on lies. Let it be said that her peaceful protest is one of the more difficult things to do. Look at what Mohandas Gandhi did with peaceful protests. They can be game changers because they are peaceful. Let's be honest, nobody likes to see a peaceful person get kicked around. Dennis Banks recognized the path she has chosen, the hard road. Anyway who says you can't be a warrior for peace?

Healing The Spirit

The Temagami Anishnabai Tipi Camp offers a special opportunity for you on your healing path: to share in the simplicity and beauty of our teachings, a natural and soothing setting, and experience a healing of the spirit. The 5 day and weekend retreats offer programs that provide an empowering experience for individuals to meet and connect with others traveling on the sacred road. As we journey through the sacred hoop of life it is important to know each one of us is sacred and has a place on the medicine wheel.

You can spend 5 days (Monday to Friday) or one weekend (Friday to Sunday) living comfortably in a traditional tipi camp in Temagami First Nation territory on Bear Island. Each day is planned to provide you with more understanding and appreciation for the sacredness of creation through the sharing of the Anishnabi teachings. The relaxed atmosphere will allow you to enjoy one of natures finest creations; Lake Temagami.

Biography Of Virginia McKenzie: Owner & operator: Virginia is a direct descendent of the Tema –Agma Anishnabi ("Deep Water People" -- also known as the Algonquin and Ojiway Nations). She has worked and travelled in the social work field for many years. She is a mother and grandmother. It is her vision to create a place where people can enjoy the simplicity and beauty of creation, while having an empowering experience that heals the Spirit. Her laughter and humour are refreshing as she takes you on a journey though time and shares her love for the land and the teachings that she holds close to her heart.

Cindy and Dennis Banks. I just sat and stared at the image for about 5 minutes, transfixed by the sight of something so meaningful.

For a long time now, the Native American (Indian) "religion" (my lack of knowledge is showing) has appealed to me. It seems to show much more respect for our environment and all living creatures. I also liked the aspect of revering Mother Earth and the special gifts of women and their contributions to the culture. It just makes so much more sense!

It would be a wonderful experience to go to Tipi Camp.

53. She has the courage to show what's in her heart...
...and I can't think of anything that would be of greater value than that.

She made a difference.

She put her ass on the line.

She opened herself up to Coward Chickenhawk Bloated P.O.S. Karl Rove's "whisper campaigns...and guess what? She's STILL STANDING. That fat bastard is STILL sending talking points to Rush, Hannity, Coulter, Malkin...and THEY are looking like the FOOLS that they are.

If we want to take back the White House, we need to look no further than the qualities that this woman has exhibited.

We DO NOT NEED "one day they run hot, one day they run cold" Democrats In Name Only like Joe Biden and Dianne Feinstein. SCREW them both. Seriously. SCREW Joe Biden and Dianne Feinsten.

They bring us NOTHING. They take the path of least resistance, they feed the insatiable AntiChrist that is George W. Bush.

We need a candidate who is willing to put EVERYTHING on the line, to stand up to EVERY attack, to return this country to the glory it possessed before the cowardly, AWOL, Oedipal, substance-abusing P.O.S. who CURRENTLY runs the White House took control.

There is a lesson to be learned here. I hope the Democratic Party LEARNS IT.

You honor her - and us all - with your presence, strength, and conviction to stop this awful war and those who would shove it down our throats, lubed with LIES. Now get to work.

77. I got the same kind of goosebumps with the photo of Kerry receiving a
blessing from the Navajo (Dine) nation last year.

The Native American leadership in this country know noble and brave when they see it.

82. The legend of the White Buffalo
One summer a long time ago, the seven sacred council fires of the Lakota Sioux came together and camped. The sun was strong and the people were starving for there was no game.

Two young men went out to hunt. Along the way, the two men met a beautiful young woman dressed in white who floated as she walked. One man had bad desires for the woman and tried to touch her, but was consumed by a cloud and turned into a pile of bones.

The woman spoke to the second young man and said, "Return to your people and tell them I am coming." This holy woman brought a wrapped bundle to the people. She unwrapped the bundle giving to the people a sacred pipe and teaching them how to use it to pray. "With this holy pipe, you will walk like a living prayer," she said. The holy woman told the Sioux about the value of the buffalo, the women and the children. "You are from Mother Earth," she told the women, "What you are doing is as great as the warriors do."

Before she left, she told the people she would return. As she walked away, she rolled over four times, turning into a white female buffalo calf. It is said after that day the Lakota honored their pipe, and buffalo were plentiful. (from John Lame Deer's telling in 1967).

Many believe that the buffalo calf, Miracle, born August 20, 1994 symbolizes the coming together of humanity into a oneness of heart, mind, and spirit.

84. Cindy v. George - Round 5 goes to Cindy
"I think it's important for me to be thoughtful and sensitive to those who have got something to say. But I think it's also important for me to go on with my life, to keep a balanced life ... I think the people want the president to be in a position to make good, crisp decisions and to stay healthy. And part of my being is to be outside exercising. So I'm mindful of what goes on around me. On the other hand, I'm also mindful that I've got a life to live and will do so."

Ah, Mr. President, how you charm the ladies. Especially the grieving mothers who lost a child in a war that is without legitimate basis or explanation.

As the Cindy Sheehan saga wages on, the current administration continues to deny the legitimacy of her concerns, her questions, and her frustration. Instead, the right-wing propaganda machine has resorted to personal attacks and distortions of the record.

Whether one agrees with Ms. Sheehan's personal views or not, she is nevertheless asking important questions that have remained unanswered for more than two years and is calling the current administration to task about a war without any defined purpose, or end.
