Heavy clashes in Baghdad as rebels attack police - Dems stay the course?
Edited on Wed Aug-24-05 08:07 AM by welshTerrier2
no, there's nothing new here ... it's the same day after day after day ...

but consider this - the article reported that 40 "insurgents" launched an attack ... 40!

we've been "training Iraqis" to defend themselves for two and a half years ... 40 "insurgents", right there in their capital city, and what do the Iraqi police do? THEY CALL IN THE AMERICANS !!!!! 40 insurgents and they can't even handle that !!

many elected Democrats continue to go along with the program of training Iraqi troops (it's the core of their support for continued occupation) to "stabilize" Iraq ... for those of you who support Democrats condoning this policy, i hope you reflect on the fact that it has been a miserable failure after two and a half years ... feel free to blame bush and rumsfeld for this; they are indeed responsible ... but tell "your Democrat" it's time to get the hell out of there ... whatever slim hopes you're clinging to will not be realized ... the policy has failed; show some leadership and light up the darkness !!

Heavily armed insurgents attacked Iraqi police checkpoints with rocket-propelled grenades in western Baghdad on Wednesday and heavy clashes broke out, police and witnesses said.

Around 40 insurgents, some of them wearing masks, could be seen brandishing weapons in the streets of Hay al-Jamma, a district in the west of the city, shortly after they attacked the checkpoints with rockets and assault rifles.

A Reuters cameraman at the scene said at least six police vehicles were on fire and gunfire and explosions could be heard.

The police said they had called for reinforcement from U.S. forces to repel the attacks.

1. The training of Iraqi police is starting to sound like a McDonalds ...
tagline "Millions and Millions trained"

In a few years, the pentagon will have trained more Iraqi Police then the country has in total population.

2. actually, it seems to me ...
US actions in Iraq have probably resulted in the training of far more "insurgents" than the training of Iraqi troops ...

6. yes, it has ...
and now there are regular reports of Shia deathsquads pulling former Sunni leaders out their beds and murdering them ...

i wonder how many of these death squads were trained by the US to "ensure stability" and help the government maintain a "democracy" ...

what the hell are we doing over there ??

7. The "Iraqi police" are not defending their country
They are part of the occupation forces and are stooges of the occupiers. They are not going to die defending american interests.

This is just another example of 'Vietnamization', the failed policy of the 1970's.

The nationalists who are fighting to drive out the occupiers have the high ground, and they are clearly willing to fight and die for their country....not for American occupiers.

8. Brig. Gen James Marks on CNN
Marks, after acknowledging that the Iraqis had to call in the Americans, lied and said that the Iraqis did a great job ... only 40 "insurgents", they call for American help, and he sees that as a great job ...

yeah, right ... CNN is truly hideous ...
