Photo: Secret Service walks away after refusing to accept letter to Bush

A secret service agent (L) walks away from anti-war protester Mimi Evans (R) and relatives of killed U.S. soldiers at a police roadblock near President George W. Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas, August 19, 2005. The agent had refused to accept a letter (in Evan's hand) addressed to Bush. In the absence of lead protester Cindy Sheehan, who raced back to California to visit her ailing mother, other parents of U.S. soldiers recently killed in the Middle East have rallied together for her cause to meet with President Bush in an effort to change his war policy. 11. But in Michael Moore's "F9/11," the SS guys weren't wearing any!
When the SS was called on to protect the Saudi embassy, they didn't wear cowboy hats! I guess its only when they work in Crawford.

4. Um...
If I was standing around in 100+ degree heat and sun all day, I'd be wearing a cowboy hat too.

There is a good reason for their popularity -- beyond just looking like a cowboy. Some other cultures use slightly different designs, but wide brimmed hats with a large space above the head, and preferably in a lighter color, are popular anywhere sun is.

14. Who's to say that he's a Republican -
- as he could very well be a Democrat or Independent or Whatever. Secret Service can be of any political party. If you work for the USSS for 25-30 years, you're bound to end up working for an administration that you didn't vote for at some point.

10. there's that pesky bulge under his shirt
It's a PHONAK induction loop so he can listen to the SS radio for instructions (like how to properly drive a truck).

12. Bush can't meet with anyone, now he can't even accept a letter?
I guess Bush doesn't meet with anyone who doesn't have a fat check in hand or read anything that doesn't start with "Pay to the Order of".

Someone might want to remind him that although he's a Republican, he is the president of all the people, including the ones he disagrees with.

Or maybe the media could remind him? Naaaaaaah.

13. Wow, that's funny...yesterday the msm made a big point
of saying that the letters written by mothers had been "graciously accepted at the gate" and bush's rep gave a little speech about how much the letters are appreciated and will be read by bush and Laura, blah, blah, blah...

Maybe they ran out of room in the trash bin?

18. you are right
Bush won't read them, but the Secret Service will, looking for threats. If someone was not cool headed, they will be back.
