Mother's Protest Puts Pressure on Democrats

WASHINGTON -- The high-profile vigil near President Bush's Texas ranch by Cindy Sheehan, the mother of a soldier killed in Iraq last year, could scramble the politics of the war as much for her allies as for the target of her protest.

The most immediate effect may be to increase the pressure on liberal activist groups and Democrats -- who have focused mostly this year on other issues -- to challenge Bush more persistently and forcefully on the war.

"It has gotten people back in the fight," said Eli Pariser, executive director of the political action committee associated with the liberal MoveOn.org. "What we're seeing is a lot of people ... recommitting themselves."

Anti-war activists, who have been largely inactive since the 2004 election, are organizing around Sheehan's protest: Wednesday, the MoveOn PAC and two other liberal groups will sponsor more than 1,000 candlelight vigils around the United States to support her.

5. I saw that ...
It just was a HORRIBLE interview ... out of the gates, he comes up with some bizarre, "do you support going into Afganistan" question that came out of left field, then as you noted, kept going back, over and over, to how the differences within the family highlighted that she is being partisan ...

GOD that just burns my butt ... This whole partisan thing, these media people are either R/Con whores who are bullying with the partisan card, or flaming idiots who are keeping the concept going by legimizing it ...

At the end, he added a nice compliment about how she should run for senate, cause she knew more about the war than most senators, but he just beat her up left and right with the family stuff ...

Still, her honestly and compassion, and tight adherance to her basic points, showed throughout ...

8. Why Hillary? Or any other Democrat - Cindy is
more effective the way she is - if Dems get involved, the attention will be drawn away from her.
