Question about something I saw on a R/C show last night

Okay, this one "remote control enthusiasts" TV show was showing these guys who build "battleships" and such and stage battles - basically, protecting the supply ships from attack.

(Please note, this was, of course, based in Texas).

Anyway, this one guy made a remark that struck me as dumb.

He was talking about how they model the ships after the World War II battleships & destroyers and the like.

So he goes on about how they model the ships - he mentions the Allied ships going up against the "Germans and the French"! I told Mrs. ZBDent, who had turned on the show, that this guy was so full of Right-Wing SHI*!

Am I correct in saying that the French did not run with the German ships in attacking the Allied ships? Am I?

I really would like to know. I don't have any history books handy to check this, and I'd like not to have egg on my face. If I was wrong about the Germans using French ships to attack the Allies, then I will admit it. But I do not recall any reference to the French ships running WITH the German ships.
